Arao High Port Heads
Arao High Port Heads
Id like to get opinions and discuss any problems that anyone forsees with these heads. I KNOW that no one has dominions up and running let alone a set of high ports, so dont bring that up as a down side, as that doesnt matter to me that much.

I dont forsee any problems that Bobby or UB hasnt already run into, but i just wanted to throw this out there to be sure. Thanks all.

8 exhaust ports per head necessitates special headers with either a 2 into 1 “Y” or eight pipes per side. NO COMPROMISE FOR MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE!

What cha gonna do for a block and manifold?

As far as block, i was going to just jack you and copy yours for the most part since i like it so much

As far as intake... well fortunately Wilson is 1/2 hour from me. Unfortunately they want $3500 for a sheet metal intake. So i might go with Hogan for $2500. I dont know, i might go visit their facility and see if i am impressed, who knows.

Absolutely, positively no disrespect to anyone at all intended. Truly. Just a personal reaction to a project this exotic. Which is: what does it prove to pay someone else to do all this stuff? I agree, the results could be awesome. But so is a Ferrari "Enzo" or a 427 Cobra. However, owning one wouldn't mean much to me, though I would certainly enjoy it, because I would just have bought it and not done it myself.
To me, this car thing is about more than just deciding who is the best person to buy this or that from. It's about putting your own brains and skills into a project. Sure, none of us have mined the ores, smelted the metals, forged the billets, and etc. But a project that is so exotic that all I contribute to it is the money, it doesn't appeal to me.
I realize this sounds negative, maybe I am in a bad mood after a long night at work? I mean, I guess my current car isn't so different. I didn't fab much of it, just bolted (some of) it together. The fuel system and some of the other stuff is my custom work I guess, though mostly it's the concept 'cause my back problems prevent me from crawling around the car much. So I guess I am talking to myself. Reminds me of the Soap Box Derby I entered as a kid. Followed the rules, got just a little help from my Dad. The car looked pathetic compared to all the others. They were obviously completely constructed by either the kid's parents, or some even looked professionally fabbed. But I was proud of it!
So, what's the point? Maybe I should go back to some aspect of the car hobby so simple I can do the whole thing myself? Of course, it will be as embarrassing as that Soap Box Derby was when I show up at the track with my cobbled up POS that's lucky to make it down the whole quarter mile? Sorry to be so depressing, I think I need to drink some coffee or get some sleep. And this has nothing to do with Advanced Tech either. Maybe it's because my car still isn't running? And this really has nothing to do with those of you brave enough and wealthy enough to use those awesome Arao heads. My hat is off to you guys! So please don't take it that way. Maybe it's jealousy or something, I hope it's not that base, just some musings aloud.

ken-
i see one problem right off the bat. 10.5:1 is max CR?(if thats correct?) that is WAY too low for a NA motor with those heads.
also, why not run one of those big bad 2v race head? they can go 400+cfm...

Here's my very humble opinion (I shouldn't even be posting in this forum...)
How much power is enough?
Can you handle it on the street?
Besides the "awe" factor of having an exotic engine, is there honestly any benefit to that kind of setup (honest question)?

/me thinks too much hassle, money, and unknown
I still have a hard time knowing that no one has those heads running yet (not specifically LT1 either). The theory is there, but it says alot to me that no one even has these things running on a small block. It seems like if these heads were so great, all the engine builders with unlimited budgets would be building stellar engines. At least some LT1 guys actually have SB2.2 heads on running engines. The thought of having to drop $2500+ on an intake manifold alone makes me sick to my stomach....and I dont really consider myself a "cheap" person.
Thats just my opinion tho.

But Bob bought his engine from someone who had it running. Somebody should be able to fill us in on how it ran.
He could have just slapped the loose parts back together, but in all honesty, the block needed some work. The lifter bosses had just been ground away to clear the lifter bars, some other sloppy work. Plus UB has his own ideas on what his block should look like.... I helped him carrying it into a head shop (no, not a "head" shop) here in NJ for some upgrades. Delay - months to get simple stuff done - and $$$ becomes a problem for many of us. So it takes forever to get the pieces together.
I know all the talk recently has got Bob to think about pushing forward again.... He keeps talking about having the only 32V/LT1 AMX in the world.....
. Talk about the exotic factor.
UB's AMX

Ok a couple replies-
Rich- Um
no comment.
Jordon- 10.5:1 is the max you can have if using a dished piston that doesnt need much if any modifying. Bobby had pistons that were setup for 13.5:1, but had to have JE custom make them.
Jordon/Jason- The SB2.2 stuff is cool, and cheap (compared to the doms) but i really dont want to have to rev that high, the doms make insane power down low and dont need to rev past 7/7.5k
96- Any real powerful car is going to have traction problems, but i am going to run the same RaceLogic system that Jim is putting on the rx7.
Fred- I've talked with Jon (original owner of UBs setup) and he said it was a great setup and ran well, to sum it up.
Oh well i dont know, all the negative makes me think.
