Just my $0.02: if you need aftermarket engine management, you probably need a different tranny.

MEGASQUIRT II, its a little bit of work to build, but mine works awesome on my turbo LT1, and i have it piggybacked so my stock gauges and trans stuff (6 speed, reverse lockout and such) still operate. grand total, about $400 and 8 hours of work on the computer, another 5 or so building the harness.

Im just using the cap and rotor of the opti, coil control is done by the megasquirt directly

opti is still plugged to the stock computer though to drive my tach.

Would you elaborate on how you actually wired it?
Please

That's cool that you have it working. I remember reading about it years ago, but never knew anyone using it. Any problems w/ it?

That's a nice job you did w/ your car. Looks good.

I used an OBDII crankshaft position sensor off a 96+ LT1 for a trigger, its an even 4x sensor. Use the hall settings in megatune to make this work. I then installed the optional vb921 high current ignition driver circuit, and it controls the coil directly. Output for (-) side of the coil comes directly from the megasquirt, or, this output can go to an MSD box. Uses a standard universal 12v cylinder coil.

as far as issues, ive had many, but most have to do with my 160lb injectors on a "street" car...idles real rich

Is the crank pos sensor on a 96 lt1 the same as a crank trigger setup? I'm more familar with those. Also are you still running sequential or a batch fire setup?

A crank trigger will work, i take it your talking about an msd type flying magnet system...that will work. MS will only do batch fire or bank to bank. Im running bank to bank, but i see no downfall to doing it this way.

Kevin,

When we go to do your ignition we will use the ignition module mode of MS2. Because you have an LTCC that gets its signal directly from the opti, It will be used for ignition. The only thing Megasquirt needs is a refrence signal to know where the engine is fireing. This is strictly so it knows when to fire the injectors and when to fire the plugs. (most of the work is done by the LTCC.)

So your saying use the LTCC for spark, and the MS for fuel only? That will work too

I was talking bout the flying magnent setup.. thanks... So with a batch firing scheme really the only thing the opti is good for then is driving the tach? The MS doesn't use the reference signal correct?

Yes, But the mega needs the opti refrence to do both fuel and spark. I spoke to Bob Baily about it and he thought it was a good idea.

Will, I used to live in Marietta I was stationed at NAS Atlanta from 94-98.

Will not work, opti will not trigger the MS, the low resolution side has 8 slots in the wheel, 4 even ones, and 4 uneven ones...and this does not produce a useable signal for the MS. If you are using a MS for fuel only, you can trigger the MS off the (-) side of the coil maybe, i never tried that, but my reference signal comes from an OBDII crankshaft position sensor.

and i was in elementry school and middle school from 94-98...haha, but, ive lived here all my life, where abouts marietta did you live?
