I'd like to comment on this point as wll. Do yourself a favor, and take every step now to ensure you'll still be able to smog the car when doing your buildup. You don't want to have to pull everything apart and reassemble it 2 times every two years. It may cost you a bit more, and you may not get those few extra ponies, but I'm sure you'll be much happier in the end. Also, you could truely claim that your STREET car can whoop up on your neighbor.
Best way it appears to do this would be (for example) purchase a set of the SMOG LEGAL 195cc LT4 heads from AFR, non-ported. These will come with a nice CARB card or sticker that you can keep with you, or put on your radiator cover. Then send them to an awesome porter (along with your new LT4 manifold) to get hogged out. Now you have awesome heads, with a nice CARB # to show the smog guys. Same thing with the blower. All though this can waste some money, buy the best smog legal superdharger kit, with the best intercooler setup, and then sell the head unit, and buy a better one that will fit in its place. Now you're covered there. The long block, whether it be a stroker or not won't really affect smog, as long as your cam is matched up well with everything. With the cam, same scenerio applies as above. Buy two cam, one smog legal one which you will just sell to someone else, but keep the CARB # or sticker), and one custom ground for you. Make sure that the custom one is designed to give you good power, but not have an aggressive lope to it (so the smog guys don't get suspiscous), and make sure that it will get you through the sniffers. Then, take you car to get custom tuned on a dyno so that your car will run as efficiently as possible (again, to make max power and get you through the sniffers). Pick up a set of SLP headers (which are pretty good for the single cat cars), and slap those on because those are also smog-legal.
Now, to the smog guys it just looks like a car with a supercharger and heads with a mild cam and headers, which you have all the CARB #'s for everything to show that you are legit. Now, as long as you don't sit in the corner swetting and twittling your thumbs while your car is being tested, you should be able to get through with out TOO much hassle.
Holy poop that was long!

Good ideas, CARB stuff just makes it more expensive, but as he said you can do alot to get around it.

I have a 1996 Camaro Z28 that makes 752rwhp/626rwtq. It's relatively driveable. It's a 383ci LT1 w/ Vortech YS-Trim.

It drives down the road fine. In 6th gear, crusing speed, like...1,600rpm or so.

Gas mileage sucks. Terrible, stupid terrible. Never checked it on the highway though.

I run 110 in it all the time.

Won't pass smog testing, emissions crap.

It's loud. Rumpty rump cam.

Over $60,000 invested.

Fo sho

Jason -

Thanks brother. I appreciate it.

I'd sell it. I'm not stoked about it, but ya know...

Later,
Wes

yeah.....$60k is alot for just 700ish rwhp.

if i was gonna blow that kind of money

Good condition LT1 rolling chassis $4k (after selling the stock engine/tranny/etc)
9" rear end $2k
custom suspension/chassis/cage setup $3k
custom fuel setup $2k
custom mounts and work to fit big block in lt1 $~5k (probably less)
built transmission $3k
fully assembled 565ci EFI BBC dyno tested 1150hp $25k
custom headers $1k
fast system and tuning $?? maybe 3k?

thats about $50k worth of my daily fantasizing.

Ah, bull****. Speed costs a whole lot. And that's 752rwhp.

565ci motors are bracket motors, who wants one? Not I.

Custom headers cost more than that.

I spent $150ish/tube on the headers for my S10, before HPC coating.

Buy a new Jegs.

It's going to take more than stock style suspension to hook a big block F-body, so I'd think you're going to be spending a whole lot more on a back half and 4-link setup than 3k. http://www.davidjanesracecars.com

I'm willing to spend the extra money to have my **** be nicer than everyone elses. I've seen some hack job high HP F-bodies...I don't want one.

Thanks,
Wes Buck

MEATHEAD - I don't have that much in my car, I just know much was spent on it.

Re: 750HP LT1 Daily Driver

I have a 95 hard top, carged and linked and 582hp off spray, 746hp on it and with a tci turbo 350 it gets 14mpg on race gas. With a 3 speed powerglide i get 16.8 mpg . pro system carb . i have 8,200 im my engine with full chrome front end . nearly 20k in my car but ive worked on it for 4 years and full interior. I think my time and cost has been worth it. Hope it helps
