6 in rod?

Alright the question is.....can a piston 4.030 bore designed for a 355 with 6in rod fit anything else? (it's a blower piston -24cc) Would it be able to be used in a 383 set-up? if you used a 383 crank that used 6 in rods?

Re: 6 in rod?

This probably effects the piston stability in the cylinder though wouldn't it?? hmmm....the reason i ask is i am looking to maybe buying a set quite cheaply and need to know if i can use them in a 383....and have it work correctly.

Re: 6 in rod?

the only obvious thing i see it being put into easily besides its intended use is a 383 with a 5.85 rod some minor block decking to get the quench right and it should be good. depends on the actual compression hieght of the piston though but should be close anyway.

With a shorter connecting rod, sure. For example...

383 crank = 3.75" stroke
0.5 * 3.75 (half stroke) = 1.875" + 6" (rod) = 7.875"
LT1 deck height = ~9.000-9.025"
9.025" - 7.875" = ~1.15" piston compression height

355 crank = 3.48" stroke
0.5 * 3.48 = 1.74" + 6" = 7.74"
9.025" - 7.74" = ~1.285"

So if you use the 355 piston in a 383 with a 6.0" rod, it will extend ~0.135" above the top of the deck at TDC. Not particularly good for your engine.

However, you could use 5.85" rods and have the block decked ~0.015" depending on what your builder recommends and the compression height of the piston in question.

The same 383 with a 5.85" rod...
0.5 * 3.75" = 1.875" + 5.85" = 7.725"
9.010" - 7.725" = 1.285"

Wish I'd said that.

Looks like you did. I didn't know there were parallel threads.

And almost an identical response to a different question over here earlier today. Must be the question of the day lol.... :

Man that thing's gonna be a beast when you're done. You still got the Z06?

BTW, I bought your 200 mile LT1 block from ya a couple years ago, just in case you were wondering.

Whiteknight, sorry to highjack your post.

Nope, traded the Z06 for a baby and a Lumina.

Whiteknight, sorry to highjack your post.
I think the thread had pretty much run its course, especially since his question got answered in more than one forum...
