I admit I am just really getting deep in the fuel injected forced induction recently, with my '95 Park Ave Ultra SC3800 being my focus of research right now. It's hard to sometimes put into my own words how "I understand" things to work. But my observations are just that, what I've seen or done. And I'll share them with who ever will listen. And when I cease to learn something new I'll probably be dead. That's why I like it here, there are many different views from all over the country with similar goals and I always learn something.
Having owned 2-Turbo Chryslers, a modded'85 Lazer XE and a mild modded '86 Dodge Lancer I know that unless you got above 3000rpm, power was at a minimal. But if you dared to hit 5 grand and cut loose the clutch it would spin tires thru 1st and 2nd and chirp into 3rd!!!And went thru about 2 short shafts a month!
I'd agree about the turbo's touchy powerband that's anything but smooth, and sometimes even violent !...
Not to mention not having the aftermarket we have now, to help in the tuning dept. Back then it was making your own adjustable waste gate arms, shimming fuel regulators, and having a muffler shop custom fab some bigger tubing(C/A inlet and exhaust).Overspooling was the norm as the prices of bigger units were just too high. But it was BIG FUN!!
But my "Park" on the other hand is smooth and fluent but will still suck you back into the leather(a little) as it searches for traction(with the T/C off) even after rolling past midway of an intersection before hittin it! But it has a "Roots" style blower I haven't had much experience with the centrifical type, so my comments are based on the "Roots"style units that I have known, 671's etc, and now the Eaton stocker on my Park. Smaller pulleys are the way to add boost to these, but then there's reprogramming the PCM and more$$$.
I have considered turning a set of headers around and trying to set up a couple of small "hairdryers" but would have to do a 180 on my entire approach so far, as the "package" needed to support them is completely different from the pistons up. So I'm going to see how I do with my new modds before going there.
As the new car market seems to be growing with 400+hp street cars the ante has been upped on keeping up and maybe winning a few...
