Why is a Turbo better then a Blower?

That is an opinion not a fact. I for one would not have anything sticking out or off my hood. I grudgingly went to the ASCD fiberglass hood with the non functioning ram air because my TB hit the old steel hood. Otherwise I would have kept it stock looking with the stock looking fiberglass hood.

1st off turbos are better for the street... a supercharger is best for short bursts such as the drag strip... where as a turbo can be run all the time
2nd turbos do cause a slight loss in power due to having to reroute the exhaust
3rd lag in turbos has been reduced significantly by the 2 stage turbo... like 2 turbos in 1 (a little turbo with little lag and little boost and a larger turbo that lags but gives a bigger boost) By boost i do not mean like Nitrous I mean a gradule increse which then stays on the whole time the engine is at that rpm.
4th blowers are NOT ugly... Who wouldn't love a blower sticking out of their car
5th Blowers are not at their limits... There are constant improvments occuring in both blowers and turbos... me not dealing with them I'm not sure what but there is...
Thats about all I can tell you... If anyone says that I am wrong.. YOu are wrong because I am going by what I know as facts.... YES #4 is a fact

I Think Mongse_1 said it pretty well.
The thing to remember is, any type of blower will be more damaging to the engine because of pressure on the bottom end.
Parasitic loss on most "enthusiast" street cars is to the tune of 50-60hp running 8-12psi. The same losses on a turbo car are like 5-10hp.
As Superchargers are linear in power, that makes them a little easier to tune.
Overspooling a blower or a turbo can be a problem if it isnt set for the right application by someone who isnt paying attention. IT should never be a problem if you do your homework.
Also at the same time, centrifugal blowers make boost at 1000rpm. If it makes 12psi at 6000rpm, numbers say it'll make about 2psi at 1000rpm, 4psi at 2000, and 6psi at 3000. Good for you. My DSM made 0psi at 1000. 0psi at 2000. But 2500 I was at 12psi all the way till 6000rpm.
If done correctly, lag will not be an issue, but for most RWD guys on the street, you do NOT want 4psi of boost at 2000rpm. You dont want to spin your tires. A turbo system can be set with low boost to low rpms and high boost at higher rpms, or even by gears. You can do that with a blower, but only by just letting off some of the boost, where you still pay the parasitc loss, vs a wastegate where you loose nothing. For a street v8, you could have 12psi by 2500rpm without a problem, but those may need to be replaced for any larger boost amounts, which is a downside.
And the biggest thing, usually turbos cost nearly twice as much initially... Which is why so few do it.

A centrifugal supercharger will not make boost down low. My 95 TA doesn't hit 0 until about 3100 rpm. A roots blower will make instant boost because it's a positive displacement(kinda like adding extra cubes). You can see 5# of boost VERY low in the RPM band.
As for boost coming on hard w/ a turbo...that's sooooo true! I took a "spin" in Brady McNew's twin turbo LT1 last year and when he blipped the throttle, it made boost and spun the car around on 28" ET Streets.
A turbo will make INSANE amounts of torque compared to a centrifugal blower.
I would be the first to say I don't know everything and I have been working in dealerships for over 20 years in service. I worked another 6 years in the aftermarket service dept. You still lean something new every day. There are some people who say what they have read and others who have built them. I have built and raced cars for 32 years. There are several people on the board who know me and some of my cars. I am doing some work for one guy from the board who is building a 10 second 3rd gen right now. If someone thinks I don't know what I am talking about they should talk to some people who know me and my work.
This is the last I have to say. What do I have to feel guilty about. The fact that I have owned and built more cars than you are old. I could make remarks about your cars and my cars but I am not going to do that. One day you will learn when someone is trying to help you don't call them names. I have helped many people in my life and feel good for doing it. I have fixed peoples cars and given away parts that I could have sold. I love muscle cars and helping other people with theres cars. That is what this hobby is all about. There is a old saying if you don't have anything good to say don't say anything at all. With that I wish you the best.
I'll admit it too...there's a LOT of things I don't know about forced induction and motors in general. I just started learning this stuff about 5 years ago.
Learn from mistakes and ask questions...that's what it's all about. Hot rodding wouldn't be any fun if everyone kept everything to themselves.

Stoned Chihauhau,
I should'nt even get into this but oh well. I think you need to calm down a little bit.Chris Ja is a good guy who has alot of experience playing with and racing cars.He is one hell of a guy and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. We all come here to have fun, kick back and hang with the same kind of people and talk about our Camaros.I also saw you coming down on Jeff 91 Kandied Z in another post sayin his car was "Ricey Lookin" It has chromed Factory wheels and a custom paint job. What is so "Ricey" about that?He has stuck alot of time and money into his car to make it look that way. Then you come in puttin him down
Everyone has opinions and this is mine,You are entitled to yours but if you keep spoutin off like that you might not get the help and answers you need some day.I know I won't forget your name.
James
P.S. About the Turbo/S.C. Debate, I'd just Spray it

only said it was ricy cuz I thought he extended the wing... if he didn't fine.. if he did then it is ricy... my car on the other had is a good old piece of **** in the middle of being fixed up... at least i don't have any false ideas of what my car is like many other people
91 Redd Sledd speaking of Jeff I have about $3000.00 dollars of his parts setting here at my house. He just dropped about $15,000.00 on parts . He should be in the 10. when it is back together. It would go faster but I don't think he wants to. I don't blame him tho that as fast as I want to go.
I am doing alittle something also and should be in the mid to high 11 come spring. See you at the track or one of the meetings.

Chris,
I will be graduating on June 27 th and will make it back to MI just in time for Camaro Superfest. Then I will be taking off for Illinois or Detroit to go to more schooling in Aug. Hope to make it to the track while I am back.
