Where to get a nice cowl hood?
Where to get a nice cowl hood?
I'm switching to carb in a short while so I might have clearance problems with the stock hood. Where would you guys recommend I get one and how much is a good price (I don't want to get ripped off). Is latch style or pin style better? Is fiberglass lighter than the stock hood or heavier? How big of a cowl would be sufficient to clear most air cleaners? Do they really let the hot air out? Thanks.
I have an Unlimited Products 4 3/4" pin on cowl hood on my '83 Z28 and a Harwood 2 1/4" latch cowl hood on my '90 IROC-Z. The unlimited is extremely light (and really cheap), but that is all it has going for it. It was really poorly constructed and the second time I took the hood off, the fiberglass around the bolt broke so now I have to cut it apart and repair the fiberglass. The Harwood on the other hand is an excellant piece. It comes with a black gellcoat on it that if you have a black car like I do it doesn't even look that bad unpainted. Then again the Harwood cost twice as much as the Unlimited hood.
