What comes with the H.O. (L69) thats not on the regular LG4
Re: What comes with the H.O. (L69) thats not on the regular LG4
Ones a Dog (LG4 150 HP & 240 TQ) and they other is a Dog with a litle guts (L69 190HP & 240TQ). The major differences were a better Cam, 4 barrel Carb, Dual Air Cleaner Intake, 2.75 dia Exhaust with a Corvette style Cat, Electric Fan and a Light weight Flywheel. Good for the day,
but that was it. This engine was surpassed by the LB9 TPI and later the B2L 350 TPI.

Compression: 8.5 vs. 9.5 (at least until 1985 when the LG-4 got bumped up to the same 9.5:1 as the L-69)
Cam: Super-wimp on the LG-4 (under 180* @ 050, not much lift) vs. a more reasonable stick in the L-69 (around 195-200* @ .050 with more lift).
Exhaust: LG-4 is 2" outlet manifolds and 2-1/4" exhaust all the way back vs. L-69 which is 2-1/4" manifold and 2-3/4" exhust all the way back.
Intake: Singe snorkel vs. dual snorkel air cleaner. L-69 also got richer rods in the carb's secondary side (DR vs. CH rods)
Chip tuning: "aggressive" spark curve for the L-69 vs. super-wimpy spark curve for the LG-4.

Heck my old L69 did quite well.
Ran 15.01 @ 92.5 With a 2.4 60
(open rear with 3.73's) all I had done was a flow master muffler, high flow cat, some timing ajustments, and a moded ram air/w a k/n. also that sucker killed T-5's like they were going out of style

So the LG4 was a computer control Dog of engine. It didn't make it any better.

There were subtle differences in the computer control besides the more aggressive spark curve. All L69s included a knock sensor. LG4s only received them from 85 on. Additionally, the ESC system was designed differently, with a dedicated module going on the L69 cars.
And don't believe the 190HP rating either. Those cars as delivered were 14 second capable, and reflected trap speeds and performance more inline with power numbers just over 200HP. They could keep pace with the early 87-88 L98 cars!

Didn't say it wasn't. Just an FYI for anyone who cares.
In fact new totally stock with no A/C (it was a special order), 3:73 posi, and all the other HP options available at the time, it only ran mid 16's, at sea level, in the 1/4m. That's pretty much a dog by any standard.

hey back in the mid 80s 16 seconds wasnt a dog,,those were the infant days of performance in the modern era.by todays standards sure its a dog.but back then it was ok.and dont stick with what u read about one car tested on a single day..all cars are different, locations, time of year all effect times...you can line up 3 brand new vettes and they will all have different acceleration rates..it all depends..
Re: What comes with the H.O. (L69) thats not on the regular LG4
So the standard rear end in the L69 was a 3:42 where as the optional rear was 3:73?Dang why couldnt i have found one with more options on it...Ah well i'm not going to complain for $650 canadian. My other question is,was the posi track also an option on these cars or did it come standard because mine is an open rear end(or the posi has given up)

Back in 84 almost every thing could be added or deleted as an option. There were few "Packages". Try to order a car today without A/C. As it was the dealer pissed about this for a couple of days. Fearing he'd be stuck with a car in Texas without A/C.
I ordered this car with the LG4, the smallest hp V8 at the time, but with the special sport interior, 4W disc brakes, optional 3;73 posi., but no power window, seats, locks or any of that stuff. I also got the optional HD cooling, and bat. which included the high amp. alt.
There's no way you could do this today. You would have to order a "body in white" and start from scratch.
