V6 to V8 swap. what's involved?

Hey guys,

i've had my 85 iroc 305 tpi for awhile now, i just bought a 91 RS and the 91 is in mint shape. i want to take the v6 out of the 91 and put a 350 in the car. im using the 85 as a parts car for the 91. what has to be changed, do i have to replace the whole wiring harness from one car to another, or just certain parts of the harness? i am also putting in a new 700r4 tranny, and a new rear....i also want to put my 85 iroc gauge cluster in the 91, i dont like the 91 setup. can that be done?. oh one more thing, i want to keep the tpi, i dont want to go to carb.

Thanks,

Tom

Tom,

The wiring harness will have to be changed. You'll be going from TBI to TPI correct? I dont think the clusters are compatible. The rear will be fine. Make sure the tranny is a '90+ Camaro or '87+ Bird for the electrical speedo and VSS sensor.

Springs, Mounts, Motor, Fans would be a good idea, basically whatever looks different. A search will yield a lot of information.

wow, big question, almost everything from that iroc is gonna have to go into your 91. Wiring harness, radiator, etc. Plus everything from the iroc is better than your RS including the rear, sway bars, wonder bar even things that you wouldnt consider even like the steering box, im pretty sure the iroc has touchier gears in it. Good luck is the best advice.

Rears may be identical, he'll have to check. Sway bars are the same assuming the RS has the F41 16" Firm Ride Handling Package. Yep, the steering box is tighter/closer ratio.

nahh

The rear end is different for a fact. The IROC came with a posi and u shud replace that one tire fire unit (open rear end, only one wheel drives)on the RS (open rear end, only one wheel drives). Trust me posi is the way to go

Haha open rears suck, I know. Are you sure ALL IROC's got posi's? Couldn't RS's be ordered with a posi unit?

Rippin-
Im pretty sure no RS ever came with a posi with the exception of the B4C police option package which i think was an RS all hooked up like an IROC but retained the RS emblems wheels etc. Correct me if im wrong. But as for that IROC posi-trac rear, it is far better than the one on that RS. The posi rear end was one of the things that came in the IROC package.
