Unhappy Transmission problems, 1984 Z28, 5 speed, manual?

Hey guys, forgive me if this is not in the right place or if it has been discussed already, just take into affect I am a woman. OKAY sorry for any women here who are wise on car issues.

My problems is: When we first get into this car, purchased for my 16 year old son, it tends to want to kick back out of second or not even go into second at times. However AFTER driving for a while and warmng things up, the transmission appears to shift fine. NOW though I learned on a manual transmission back in the 70's, I now can't remember much about them and actually didn't know much to begin with other than go full speed and stop.

This is 1984 Camaro as stated above has only 33,000 original miles, paint job and everything else is also original with this car, has been babied and I can't quite figure out what is going on. Could it be it just needs to warm up? I am doubting that one, isn't their linkage or something for transmissions and clutches that maybe a little off? Sigh, just hoping for it to be a simple fix, thanks for any help you wise souls can give us.

Re: Transmission problems, 1984 Z28, 5 speed, manual?

Ahhh, you are asking me???? I have no idea but I have found some interesting info on the web about not putting heavy gear oil in the transmission, thinking that may be a problem cuz we did put gear oil in a couple of weeks ago.

It had a leak, we were shocked to see it come out red like Automatic transmission fluid and talked with the owner who said that it was a break in fluid that was put in originally. Remember this car has only 33,000 miles on it, so he said put gear oil back in, but not so sure that was right. Do any of you know what should be put into it? I am parking the car until I find out further about it, hopefully since we have driven it only a few times since the change no permanent damage is done. Thanks for any help you might give us, we are learning here.
