as for that 1/4", is it stock?
if yes, bolt it up

if not stock
use spacers(washers) so you only need to draw it forward about 1/16"(~ the thickness of a quarter)

 

if it is spinning freely, it was in all the way

 

Well, the transmission is in but something is not right. There is a clunck between all of the gears and now I have 4 gears plus overdrive. This is not right. Before I had 3 gears plus overdrive. I have a 1991 camaro z-28 and a 2001 camaro ss and they both have 3 gears pluse overdrive. I have owned a 1989 iroc-z and a 1983 trans am and they all had 3 gears plus overdrive. Really, it's like now the car has 2 overdrives. The rpm's go way to to 1000 rpms at 35mph and 45mph. I called the transmission shop and they told me to bring it in and they agreed something is not right. Also when I get up to 55mph the car starts to vibrate which it didn't do before.

 

Was it the universal joints?
