Car Not Cranking Over - New Battery, No Codes
Hi guys,
My z28 is not my daily driver anymore I usually only take it out when its nice outside (its covered outside in the driveway during the winter). A month ago when it was warm outside (60s) I took the car for a spin and went to get food. I parked the car ate and then left and then the car started but died about 2 minutes later in the parking later as I was driving. I knew it was the battery so I got a boost and went home and picked up a new battery from autozone (2 year warranty battery was bad).
Ok so today it was seemy nice outside (40s) so I decided to start the car. Put the new battery and started the car. It took about 2 seconds, which was odd to start (You could hear the cranking). Usually the car starts right away especially with a new battery. So I was like well it has been about a month, so the car was running/warming up for about 8 minutes at which point it started to shudder and shut off.
I could not start the car again. It cranks but would not turn over. Car has about 106k on it. Plugs, wires, cap, and rotor all less then 7 months old new. My starter is about 2 years old. I checked the car for codes but got nothing but 12 (normal).

I just went back outside 20minutes later and started the car. Cranked over right away. I had to car warming up for about 13minutes without a problem.
Could this be an electrical issue indicator? I was starting to think fuel delivery but since it started right away this time I am not so sure now.

hey!!if it is cranking but not starting it could be fuel pump(sometime if it overheats during running and you shut off car it will not start until it cools down)if it is tbi-carb has mechanical pump/but if it is not cranking it could be the vats system starting to fail good luck dude
Sounds fuel related to me. Maybe water in the tank, fairly common with cars that sit a lot. Do you keep your tank full? Do you use a fuel additive of stabilizer?
Just out of curiousity what is it covered with, not plastic I hope?

if the vats is still factory set-up, it will not even crank.
considering the time it sits, it could have been something as simple as moisture in the distributor. might take the ignition module to have it checked. they can do some weird things.
you can use a NVSRAM module sold at moates.net along with a laptop and aldl cable to bypass the vats. i am using this nd it works great. you can also learn a lot about it on thirdgen.org. i change things in my programming all the time with it and i don't use a chip burner or anything like that. just a laptop and aldl cable.
