thinking about changing form a 9bolt to 10bolt
i have been calling places all around the u.s trying to get prices on how much it would cost to get a new set of gears for my 9 bolt and it's looking to cost about $1000 that i thinking about buying a used 10 bolt with a 3:23 gear or higher. Of course i would still keep my 9-bolt just in case anything were to happen to my 10-bolt, does this sound like a good idea???
The rear ends are direct bolt in swaps, however the 9 bolt is much stronger and more reliable then any 10 bolt. You can get parts for them at www.9bolt.com (or it might be www.9-bolt.com
)
If you want proof of the 9 bolts holding up look at the 89 TTA. They are making big power and hardly ever break rear ends and they have 9 bolts with 3.27 gears.

www.diffsolutions.com is the same company as 9bolt.com and carries new gears for the 9-bolt rear at around $300/set. Installation will cost you $100-200 additional. You can probably get a 10-bolt with the gears you want for $300, and it will bolt right in, but it is definitely a weaker rear. However, if you aren't gonna be running more than around 400hp the 10-bolt should be just fine.
If you do decide to swap in a 10-bolt, do you wanna sell your brakes? I need some '89 brake hardware for my 9-bolt...
