I believe you can reuse your gaskets because they are not coolant or oil ones but for the cheap price the gaskets go for, why not buy new?

yea, i took off the plentum and it was the fuel regulator. however, when putting the new one in, i managed to strip 4 of the 6 screws that held it on. so, i retapped the holes and that's where i'm at now. before i try to start it i want to pull a spark plug to 2 to make sure the cylinders arn't full of fuel. when it did turn over, it shot that battery down REALLY fast and it sounded llike crap. are all of the plugs hard to get to? does this sound right to anyone else? thanks for the input.

Pull 2 or 3 that are easy to get to, and if they're good the other ones probably are too. DEFINITELY change the oil because it's probably diluted with fuel by now. If it's hard to start the first time or 2 don't be surprised.....the cylinder walls will be gas-washed and it won't get quite as much compression at it should.

And don't overtorque the regulator.

just a comfortable tightness is fine , as you would a sprakplug. No need to worry about torque ratings on that piece.

I'd say "fairly tight with a 1/4" drive ratchet" is a pretty good way to go about it. As long as it doesn't leak you're fine.

Question Re: starting problems

Alright guys, we got the car back together and timed and it was running close to normal. I think the timing needs to be fine tuned a bit. Anyway, my father was driving the car to work and back to make sure it was 'road worthy' for me to bring down to school. On his was home from work the said the car 'lost power' and had to bring it home at 20 mph. I took the car our and noticed normal acceleration (not floored) until second gear. Once up to 25 mph or so, I let off the accelerator. If the accelerator were pushed in again, the engine will race until about 3000 rpm producing very little acceleration, then once over 3000, it will produce acceleration like normal. Does anybody have and idea of what could be causing this? Is there a cable from the throttle body to the transmission that we could have adjusted unknowingly? The transmission fluid level is where it should be.
Also, it won't shift out of 2nd gear no matter the speed or rpm of the car. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Re: starting problems

yes,the TV cable could be out of adjustment. did u take the 3 cables connected to the throttle body off when u took it and the plenum off? if so,that might cause it to act and shift wierd.

its been a while since ive had TPI,but i think theres a little button on the TV cable u push, and with the car not running, gently push the pedal to the floor and it should be set...or somethin close to that.

sorry if thats not really clear,some1else should chime in to clear things up that still have that TPI bull$hit
