Removing cat

i got a 83 z28, and my cat is almost shot on it, the air pump is going out too. so instead of spending mass cash i just want to take it off, would this hurt anything or just help out by having better airflow? also, do i have to weld an exhuast piece in place of the cat, or is there a exhaust connector that doesnt need welding? thanks!

Hey man! Welcome to the board. If I'm not mistaken somehow you can just shove a pipe through the cat then bolt it back on. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

Check and see if your cat is bolted on. If so, just unbolt it, use a prybar to gut it and then just bolt it back up.
