removing A/C bracket

I ripped off my leaky A/C unit a while ago and noticed there's a bracket over the power steering. It looks like I need it to keep the p/s there, but it's kind-of annoying and useless. Can I just take it off? Do I need to get one off of a non a/c car? Or am I s-o-l, and need to just deal with it?

Carb-ed 305 if that makes a difference.

What model year are we talking here, anyway?

If it's got non-serpentine, then you need that bracket, but you can whittle it down with a sawzall as I have in the past.

No, you can't remove it. On the top end it's one of the mounts for the A/C compresor, but on the bottom it's one of the adjustment points for the PS pump. I have the same deal on my 78 Malibu (uses the same setup) and I leave it alone for the same reason you do- it's ugly but necessary.

I'm sure there are PS brackets for a same-year non-A/C car that would work but I haven't worked up the energy to go looking for them.

85, it's V-belts. I considered chopping it but didn't want it to look hacked.

I kinda thought that too, but figured I'd ask.

When you chop it, make sure you cut on a radius and smooth it over with a file. I have a cut-down bracket that looks almost like it came from the factory like that. I dont use that bracket anymore, in case you might be interested in buying it?
