project 91 firebird400 get swapped to project91firebird409??

so i just got another idea of insanity what if i swapped my 400 for a 409 and then built it up, with the dual duece injection ect.and so long.
would it be any faster or rather quicker. it prollt will be way more costly but if it's faster i juat may do it.
or should i stay with the 400sbc because i got it alrready planned out. and all i gotta do is build, instead of switching engine's and haveing to replan and reconstruct my hole project.?????????
just another idea of insanity from good old mikey who can't leave well enough alone.

409's are a totally different breed...Don't even know how well it would fit because they were huge motor's, also They weight a ton...Not much aftermarket support...The only thing that's good is the heads and they aren't as good as aftermarket heads just stock sbc heads.

Agreed

Go with the 400 for obvious reasons. Even better make it a 406

i bought a 91 firebird t-top'sanyway: it's got a 1974 350sbc being swaped for a 74400sbc in it with intake350-5425 with 2 tbi's from a 350 truck engine adappted to it. they got injector spacor's and every thing like that all ready done. it was a fun car tell it spun a rod bearing. so know i'm rebuilding it. i swapped the 3.73 gears for 4.11.
it got a 700r4 from a gmc 3500 rebuilt with shift kit.
it spun the bearing about 4 months after the gear and tranny swap so now i'm building the stuffing out of it. here what i need to know should i use the 318*cam or the 328* cam which would be the best choice cause the old 292* cam wasn;'t all that hot.so those are the 2 cam's i was told to choose from. so what would you guy's sugest. so far best run was 13.88@107mph. i'd like to see about 110mph and about 12.6 time zone. already got a 10.5:1 comp ratio.so it will run good on 93octane. the block and lower end is done. i'm at the cam and head's piont now. so 318* or the 328* cam anyhelp would be nice.

we desisded to go with the 292*cam with 575 lfit,2,200 stall con verter. iwas wondering how well a 409 would couple yup with the same mod's work on the 409 cause more cid= more power and with it being a big block i figured it wouls hual ***.
but them i desided a 409 would be cool but it's going 2 cost twice as much as the 400 so build. then i relized if it blew up my car would be done for cause how in the hell would i replace it cheeply you can't so yeah the 400 is the way to go i'll save the 409 for a hot rod that will be driven less.

i can get a 400 rebuildable core for $633.00.
i can get 409 rebuildable cores for $1,300.00.

now the 400 will cost about $4,000 to build.
and the 409 will cost about $6,500 to build.
so it's really $7,800 v.s. $4,633.00 is the power differnec worth the price difffernce prolly not.

I would put in a 350 and run quicker. I run about a second quicker than 13.8 with a stock 350 and bolt ons. Not to mention gas mileage and dependabilty.

110mph at the 13.6 zone lol no that was typo i corrected it sorry.
i did 13.88@107 with the 350. big lack of traction at take off that is sovled now. but i still will never own another 350 again i'm done with them no offence to other's that like 350's but there nnot for me.the 87 GTA with the 350tpi is my only 350 left and it'a got 4,000 miles on it so it's about shot. i but it's knocking by 20,000miles top's if it last that long.blowen 3used 350's 2 rebuilt 350's 1 crate 350,and 2 built 350's.after 8 350's i'm done with them i got 2 305's with ,more mile then them 350's still running.
i got 3-406's still up and running. so it could be just a fluke but just the same i'll stay with my 400's and 305's.
well my bad one of the 305's is really a 335tpi now.

NO OFFENCE TO YOU 350 GUY'S

No offense taken.

Although, I am curious as to how you can say 350s are junk. Since 1975, all Vettes came with them. At least until 97. What about all the 4th gen Camaros with LT1s. They easily hit 100k miles with no trouble.

I personally think the 305 that came in my Camaro is bulletproof. I beat on it up until I pulled it a 178k miles. I then put an LT1 in it. With about 66k miles on it, it has nothing wrong with it. And runs good too. Stock long block with bolt ons. Low 12s with a 100 shot. Definately a solid motor.

If a 350 is giving you the problems you claim, I say you are doing something wrong. No offense.
