Ok one more "annoying" question

Ok.. I'm just curious to know what you guys think i've got as far as rwhp goes..I know i wanna upgrade to a holley stealth ram and some different headers, but other than that I may leave this motor alone if it makes good power..I found out the orig owner did a mild port job on the heads, so i may just do a bigger port job on the factory heads to "save" them. I'm on a budget here, so id like to save any money i can, and plus im not going to go too insane with this engine, after all, it is my daily driver.

My plans are to go with a new short block, send the heads out and see if they can be saved with a bigger port job, get a stealth ram and get different shorty headers..then basically reuse everything from the old motor that i can..So with that said, what do you think rwhp will be on the motor with these specs..

Comp Cams Roller Cam - 224I,230E @.50/
.513"I,.520"E

Comp Cams roller tipped rockers (1.52:1)

Comp Cams 1.437 dia duel valve springs

Comp Cams locks, retainers and 11/32 teflon seals

Holley Twin 58mm throttle body

Holley stealth ram

Valves cleaned & refaced

Heads resurfaced and machined to accept cam hardware

Port and polish job

Heddman 1 5/8" shorty headers with Y pipe ( was a 2 cat car converted to 1)

Catback exhaust

Underdrive pullies

K&N filters

MSD 8mm wires

Accel 300+ digital ignition

Hypertech Stage 2 chip

160 degree thermo, 176 degree on/166 degree off fan switch

3.73 gears

Re: Ok one more "annoying" question

Hmmm. Taking a look at what you've written above there are two things that jump out at me:

* First, that looks (to me) like a really big cam for stock heads, whether they're ported or not. You might want to get a second (or fourth, or fifteenth) opinion on that...

(EDIT: I've heard a lot that you can frequently get a decent set of aftermarket heads for the cost of re-doing stock heads. Might be worth comparing some prices...)

* Second, I've heard very little good about Hypertech chips, I'd personally stay away from that brand. IIRC, all they do is throw in a little more timing advance, & bump the fuel curve a little - it's really generic.

That doesn't mean that you're stuck trying to burn your own PROM though, I've heard good things about a guy who will get your specs from you, burn one that's pretty close, & then work w/ you a little bit back & forth through the mail to get it dead-on. (I think it's $300 or so, & he'll burn the 1st 3 chips for that price.) Like I said, he's supposed to be real good, I just can't remember the name...

I don't know if it would be worth it for me to try to guess how much power you'd make, but if I had to pull a WAG outta my butt, I'd say 340 to 360 hp - limited by the cyl heads...

Good luck!
