TV cable adjustment
TV cable adjustment
Since my new crate and new trans install my 700R4 car has been shifting at about 4400 rpm's under full throttle.
Most everyone recommended I adjust the TV.
I adjusted it today and took it for quite a few drives each time. It seems to adjust just the mid throttle shifting. Like how you want it to shift during normal driving conditions. No matter how I set it it wont change the full throttle shifting point.
Is there some other adjustment I should be doing?
Also, is there a break-in period for a stall conv.? There is a bump I feel in the stall at about 5 mph. Is this normal? So far I hate my stall feeling. I'm very tempted to ditch it and get a factory set stall again.
The car revs to high and doesn't go as fast as it used to with the normal throttle. It's faster under full acceleration though.

If you're just guessing where the TV cable is supposed to be, it'll never work. It seems like there are 4 or 5 tabs along there and it should be easy to guess, but it isn't.
Press that D button and slide the cable as far back as you can (towards the windshield). Let go. Then take the throttle blade and open it up to full throttle. You should hear it click or ratchet a few times. Release the throttle and your TV cable should be perfect.
You car feels slower because it's only getting about 80% throttle than it should be (with the TV cable set wrong). It also feels faster because you have a bigger stall.
I went through hell trying to adjust my TV cable after a SuperRam install. Turns out I needed a special SuperRam bracket for the TV cable to get through without binding up along the bottom of the SuperRam. Once I got that and re-adjusted the cable, it worked perfectly.

I think it's in a pretty good place right now. Thanks a bunch.
I got it to click!
Once I pushed the TV cable fully towards the windshield I was afraid to turn the throttle wide open because it felt like it was going to break a cable. I just finally forced it to WOT and it clicked a few times. Nothing broke and perfectly adjusted.
Thanks a bunch Gord's Green Z28

One last thought, if it still acts up and the tv cable is original, it is problably time to replace it since they do stretch over time. The way you set it is the correct way and will be perfect almost 99% of the time. The higher stall is great especially with a moded motor. I run stall coverter that is lock up with a B&M super cooler along with a trans temp gauge to keep tabs on it.

Once that thing is set, you're laughing. Those TV cables aren't just controlling shift points. They're also controlling line pressure. Absolutely vital to have them "dead on" perfect.
