Mini-Ram
Mini-Ram
Anyone have any experience/recomendations on this? I was looking into it because im thinking of building my 406ci block to put into my 89' Iroc and though that this would be the perfect way to top it off. Is the claimed 95 hp gain over a stock TPI realistic? Any insight is great, thanks guys
I don't have any first hand experience with it, but I have friends that have them, and I know they work well!! From what I've seen and heard and read...it seems the Mini-Ram is a superior piece to others like the "Super-Ram", etc...

They work very very well on a large cube motor. Put one on my brothers 87 GTA with a 400. We used a teeny-tiny cam in it becuase it was laying around and we were afraid of the loss of bottom end torque. We had nothing to worry about. It would ROAST the tires anywhere below 35 MPH. It was fast enough to hang dead even with a ZR-1 Vette up to 125 MPH. It ran 13.0s @ 110+ on Pep Boys radials in 90* heat all day long. Oh, ad it weighed over 3800lbs race weight.
He eventually upgraded the cam to something with a bit more high end, trading away some of the rediculous torque. Then he could run away from that same ZR-1 at will!
If you want to email me I can give you the low-down on all the nitty gritty details of the buildup- exactly what parts we used, tuning, etc.

Only down side is if you use it on a street car that needs to pass smog testing. Reason being, there are no pevisions for an EGR valve.
I'm in he process of rigginging somethign up. If it falls through I'll post pictures and info about later.

If you mean putting it on the STOCK 350 TPI long block, I can answer that, too. Originally my brother bought the Miniram and dropped it on the stock long block. Results: not good. Bottom end torque was way down. He had to rev it to the moon to make up for the loss of bottom end torque. He probably got 30 Hp from it, all at the expense of the once-nice TPI torque curve. At that point the original 120K mile bottom end said "no way" and ate a rod bearing 2 weeks later from being revved 1000 RPMs beyond anything it had seen in it's life before.
I had a feeling that i would get a response similiar to that. I guess i'll just hold out until I can get the funds to put the 406 back together. Thanks for the replies saved me a lotta money and frustration

The MiniRam is a better flowing system than the SuperRam. If you are running a supercharger or N20 it is better. The SuperRam is a better part up to 6000 RPM but the MiniRam takes over from there. The SuperRam is a better made part as far as the quality of the casting. I polishs parts for a living and the MiniRam is very poor quality compaired to the SuperRam. The SuperRam will work better on a engine with light mods. The MiniRam is easier to remove and install. I have a SuperRam and I am going to take it back off my engine and polish it. Check out the link in my sig if you want to see a SuperRam on a engine. I have 2 albums so if it not on one click the other.
