Long Tubes

Gentlemen:
New guy on the block-3rd. gen. "88 GTA 350. I would appreciate knowing if anyone has installed L/T on their 3rd. gens and if they had issues after the fact. Meaning, ground clearance, excessive noise & etc. If not, would it be worth the expense for H/P gained-I've seen Hooker Ceramic coated for $800+, hardly seems justified for 20+ gain. My GTA is stk. bottom-end, TPIS Mini-Ram 111, GM Fast-Burn Hds., 58mm. T/B, SLP Cold-Air Induction Catco cat, ZZ9 cam, LT1 24# injectors, 1.5 & 1.6 Rockers,Wal-Bro fuel pump, Hooker header-Shorties(coated), American Thunder Series 80 Exhaust & 125 shot ZEX Dry system. Any suggestions or pics would be appreciated, I saw pics of a 91 Camaro w/ L/T and I thought they looked D******* good! Thank you in advance-- hydraulicdave

Re: Long Tubes

I run hooker super comp LT. Power is good; however, tight fit and needed custom exhaust work.

I did just help install SLP 1 3/4 headers on my friends. Fits easier and follows stock exhaust route so it will work with any cat back system. I really don't think he is giving up that much power.

Depending on power level and whether street or strip car may help you decide

Re: Long Tubes

What have most of you seen as far as gains in hp/tq from a dyno on long tubes vs shorties on the L98 engines?

Re: Long Tubes

I did Hooker long tubes and they were a tight fit in the car but have great plug clearance. I am selling a Mufflex 4 Y-pipe is you're looking to go that route after the headers. email me.

Re: Long Tubes

Im running a set for a 2nd gen. on my 91 rs, I dont suggest it if you are driving it on the street, ground clearence is tight, but the Hooker SC L/T for the 3rd gen fit nicely you cant even see them under the car. You do have to trim a bit on the a-arm near the corner but a hair-hammer with a V chissel worked for me took about 5 min. Custom exhaust is a must for the street also.
