Mass air flow sensor 88 fire bird

Ok so I have an 88 fire bird with a 2.8 v6.
I also have a 85 camaro with the 2.8 too.
The mass air flow sensor on the camaro is new and the one on the
firebird is bad. the problem is this the fire bird has a 90 elbow on the in side
of the sensor. I can see that it is the same one as on the camaro.
I need to take the elbow off so I can put it on the other sensor with out breaking it. I can see it is glued on with what kind of glue I have no idea.
only think I can think of is to use a dremel drill and cut the elbow off and some of the sensor and grinding at the seam where the sensor meets the elbow. or if I knew what kinda glue they used I could get something to eat the glue.

Thanks,

Chris G.

Stop by a dealer who has one on the lot and see if the elbow is glued on. Don't see why it should be, I'd leave that one alone and buy an elbow that'll fit your Camaro TB. I'm sure there's plenty of used ones to be had for little $.

Yes the elbow is glued onto the mass air flow Sensor.
I called the dealer yesterday and he said that the mass air flow Sensor
comes with the elbow glued on to it .
here's a link to a picture of it http://www.partsamerica.com/PartDeta...pe=473&PTSet=A

And here is the one for my camaro http://www.partsamerica.com/PartDeta...pe=473&PTSet=A
see my 85 camaro was Tboned and can't be fixed but all my sensors are new.
my camaro's mass air flow Sensor does not need an elbow.
my camaro has the two little filters in front of the Radiator. witch I would love to use on the 88 firebird but was told it would not work because of the hood.
well let me know what you think.
thanks agine

AutoParts image doesn't concurr with Dealer's statement.
However,
If they have an elbow for that MAF then, they should also have the glue, which would provided the answer to:

... or if I knew what kinda glue they used I could get something to eat the glue...
Can you post, or send a picture of your setup. I can probably come up with a fix so you won't need to buy a new MAF, and or elbow.

Re: Mass air flow sensor 88 fire bird

your kinda loosing me here
don't know how to post a picture here.
The elbow is glued to the MAF sensor.
New or reman they glue the elbow to the MAF sensor.
The only thing I could do is cut the MAF off the elbow then grinding it at the seem till it falls apart. A friend of mine said to try hot water or steam.
O an today when I started the car up to move it to put a new transmission in it it set the MAF code agine 34 low airflow
I put my MAF from my camaro in it the other day and reset the ecm and it was fine but I need the elbow to run it to the air filter.
ogg.
If all else fails I'm taking it to the dealer for 60 bucks they will tell me what's wrong.
let me know what you think.
thanks Chris G.

This board doesn't allow pictures. If you want, PM me your e-mail address. I'll help you as much as I can off board. Even if there wasn't anything wrong with my MAF I'd still replace the OEM elbow for something that I can clamp together.

Re: Mass air flow sensor 88 fire bird

The Maf styles are different for the Camaro/Firebird due to the lower hood line on the Firebird. Also the location and set up are different.
