Many questions

Well i finaly got my 91 z28 305 5-speed on the road and i have a few questions

One. My car while just driving around normally is usually around 180* which is normal, but there are times when it reads 220 or higher but seems to be running fine....is that normal?

also the hotter the engine seems to get the harder it is to shift the tranny, it will get stuck in gears and be hard to get into them...i have a hurst short shifter...i know that that tends to stiffen up the shifts... should i maybe change the gear oil? or is it a problem with the tranny...after about an hour of driving i start to get back pains its so hard to shift....also putting the tranny into reverse is very rough....a clutch adjustment will fix that right?

any info you have on both of these subjects is appreciated ...thanks in advance...ron

I have an A4 so I don't know about the second question. Anyway, under what circumcisions does it go to 220? In stop and go traffic in the summer with the AC on max, mine does too. Is the coolant fresh and in the right proportion? Is the gauge reading right and is the thermostat working like it should?

About putting the tranny into reverse:

You say it's very rough. Do you mean it grinds? If so just shift into 5th first then slide her back into reverse. No more grinding

Sounds like the clutch is dragging. You may have air in the clutch hydros...try bleeding them and see if it does any good.

a $20 haynes manual will show you how, and teach you a lot of other stuff too. IM not trying to be an ***, it would be better exlplained in there is all.

Haynes is worthless. If you're gonna buy a manual get a real one from Helms. It costs almost $100 but it's worth every penny. You'll never have to ask a service/maintenance question again.

Bleeding the clutch takes 2 people. Jack up the front of the car and crawl under the driver's side. Locate the slave cylinder, and find the small hex-drive bleeder plug (on top next to the line.) Have a helper work the clutch 3 or 4 times and hold it down. Open the bleeder valve and let fluid (and hopefully air bubbles) flow out until it stops. Close the valve, then have the helper pump and hold again, and repeat the bleeding process. 3 times should be more than plenty...make sure the reservoir doesn't empty out or you'll have to start all over again.

big problem, or atleast i felt like saying that...the line that runs into the slave cylinder has a hole in it somehow....how easily replaced is this?

It's not too rough to replace. You have to pull out both the slave cyl and the master cyl, but once you get them out the line is just held in with a roll pin on each end. Tap the pins out with a punch and the line will pull right out.

Finding a line might be a problem though. I dunno if you can get it seperately or if it only comes with the whole assembly.
