MAF sensor Bad?

Does anyone out there know how a car reacks when the MAF sensor had gone bad. I have had problems with the car stalling and took it to the shop and they put it on the machine to check it and said that everything was ok. Now the car runs really bad with a ping in the engine ( like the timing is off) and just has no power what so ever. I took it back and they said that everything still checks fine. They said that the MAF sensor could be going bad or maybe even the computer. Has anyone got any ideas? I have replace the IAC valve, the TPS sensor is set fine, EGR valve. Need some help. I am sure that someone out there has expercined the same problems. Please give me some info. THANKS Just to let you know I have a 87 W/305 TPI
