L98 w/ ZZ4 H.O cam
L98 w/ ZZ4 H.O cam
I'm thinking about getting a ZZH.O. cam and porting my stock heads. what kind of gains may I get with this setup. I have a program that says 391 at the crank with the headers that i'm running, witch are SLP large tubes. Here are the cam specs.
Part # 10185071
Duration @ 0.050" Lift: 208/221
Lift: .474"/.510"
Lobe Separation: 112
Type: Hydraulic roller tappet
5.7L HO 350
idle -5500 RPM
keep in mind that I have kids so "tight budget"
I'm also installing 3.73:1 gears next week

The ZZ4 cam is a good upgrade from stock, not too wild for a TPI setup. The Hotcam is a little on the wild side for a mildly modified TPI.
Either would work best with chip programming to run it right but with the Hotcam it's a requirement.
If you really think it's going to go over ~350HP then larger than stock injectors (factory L98s had 22# units) will also be required, and again, chip programming to match.

"I have a program that says 391 chp"
I have a ZZ4 cam and springs in a '89 L98 ,stock heads , siamised intake ,SLP runners, ported plenum and LT's
with no cat.
ET's v weight show approx 315chp. TPI in any form is going to be the major restriction to power.
Power drops off after 5K, best times shifting just under but great power off idle -5K.
Arwesome torque , had to go ET streets to get traction.
Very happy for budget , quicky hot up.
Can be had on eBay for $110; new crate engine takeout.
Great bang for buck.
