Harmonic balancer install

Harmonic balancer install

when installing the balancer,,,,how far down do I go? alll the way till it bottoms out on the crank and I cant go anymore?

The bolt and washer determine how far it will go. It's pulley will need to align with the accessory pulleys.

Yes. Please do yourself a favor and buy a Harmonic Balancer Installation tool from your local Auto Parts.

The bolt and washer determine how far it will go. It's pulley will need to align with the accessory pulleys.
Wrong. The dampener/balancer should be firmly seated against the crank. If the pullies don't line up something else is wrong.

yeah I kinda knew the bolt and washer didnt determine how far it went....thanks for the info...

and just to make sure, I lube the timing seal with oil but do I lube the crank snout and inner of the balancer?

Don't think it's required but it couldn't hurt either. Might help with rust down the line.

You want to lube up the outer shaft with oil or greeze and lube the inside of the balancer with antiseize. Put on and use a harmonic balancer installation tool. Press the balancer on till it stops.

One the balancer is installed with the tool (I never said to use the bolt as an installer, my apologies if that's what you thought,) and the bolt is torqued the balancer will be on as far as it will go.
