fuel pump replacement LT-1
fuel pump replacement LT-1
I've been researching this topic. Replaced a fuel pump on another make and model, 93 Corolla. They come from the factory with a "Trap Door". You just pull out the back seat, and see a black sheetmetal plate, held down with four phillips screws. That's stock. Remove the plate, and your looking at the pump on top of the tank.
Reading my 97 Z28 manual I got from Helm publications, looks like more work than what is necessary. Remove the wheels. Then the entire rear axle. Siphon and drop the tank. Oh yeah, don't forget to relieve the pressure in the lines, and also pull the gas cap to relieve the tank pressure.
Well. The trap door alternative is sounding better all the time. Think I'll even use a Corolla sheetmetal plate. Maybe cut some rubber for a gasket, just to go one extra step.
I have some other issues which I can use to justify the trap door. Right now, I'm pretty much stock. All original fuel system. Unsure what mods I'll do, but I'm going with the ractronix Walbro pump with the plug and play harness for now. Maybe add a second Walbro if needed. Maybe some other alternative pumps down the road. Who knows. I do know that every time I want to upgrade this pump, I don't want to get as involved as the factory manual tells me to.

God, don't hack up your car. I hate reading these threads about the "trap door" method. Do yourself (and your car a favor) and do it right. You are comparing a Corolla with a Camaro in terms of fuel pumps,,,,,
That is fine hack up your Camaro to add a custom Corolla fuel door
That is what I would do, I think....................
