After driving my car around the other day, I looked at the temp. gauge and it's showing 240 degrees and the fan had just come on. I checked the fuses and changed out the coolant temp. sensor, and also I just replaced the thermostat. What could be causing the fan to not come on til 240.....when it normally comes on around 225 or so

 

it may sound dumb but it was my case check to see if your fan relays are making connection.

 

I was told it was completely normal for this to occur (IE the temp is set for it to come on this way).

Doesnt make sense to me though. If the car has a 195 degree thermo, then 195 degree coolant will flow out, and outside temp fluid into. Why did GM want there to be so much flow of coolant before it decides to cool? Like waiting until the absolute last minute. Sure, the motor is designed to run at 200 degree temps, but 240? why?

 

Before my fan came on at 225, and hear lately it's at 240....Kind of scared me b/c my thermostat hung up on me not too long ago and almost blew the motor.

 

Sounds like your primary relay or sensor has gone for a fritz.

i was having that problem(well,not really) the actuall problem was my thermostat was wrong.it was showing 240 when it was really 220.im gonna put in a pillar pod and an autometer water temp gauge so i know the correct temp.
