Engine Swap Help

Hello,

I have a 1989 Firebird Formula w/ the original 305 TBI motor in it. I built up a '79 350 small block before I purchased the car, and I wanted to look into putting this motor in. I was looking at both engines, and it seems that the front components (alternator, water pump, pwr steering pump, etc) of the 305 won't just bolt on to the 350. Is this correct? Are there any adaptor kits available?

Thanks in advanced,
Steve

Re: Engine Swap Help

There should be no reason that the brackets will not interchangeably swap between engines. 79 was a GEN I Small block, and every year up to 1992 also used a GEN I small block Chevy.

Re: Engine Swap Help

you can easilyswap over any and all brackets, the only thing i would be concerned about is the water pump, i'm not too familiar but some gen i sbc's have a longer water pump

Re: Engine Swap Help

the only real problem is if the dipstick is on the drivers side you will have a hard time with the ex.manifold and dipstick combo, use headers.....as far as the waterpump they are all long style with the exception of the v8 monza it is a short style,'88 started the rev.rotation so just use the pump for the car and serpentine acc.
