Electronic Fuel Pump
Electronic Fuel Pump
What could be things causing it not to turn on? Besides the fuse next to the battery. I would like to know every possible thing that could have gone wrong before actually buying the new fuel pump, cuz its a bitch droppin the tank. Thanks.
This is like Karma...lol I have been chasing a code 54 on my IROC. We have the same year, engine.
So far I have checked the Fuse you spoke of. Next you have to go under the dash to the ECM. On the ECM you have to locate B2 or the Tan and white wire. Get yourself a Test Light and Clip one side to a ground, the other end sticks into the B2 connection. Turn the key to ON not START and the light in your test light should come on for at least 2 seconds. OH DONT UNPLUG YOUR ECM. You should also check out your Oil pressure switch and the fuel pump relay. I checked both of those the same way I checked the ECM connection. Last but not the most desireable... Check if you are getting power to the actual fuel pump. I actually did this last step first but I found a worn wire comming out to the oil pressure switch. I havent really driven the car but when I take her around the block I dont get the Code 54 anymore so I think I solved it. I got all this info by going to AutoZone and asking them to print out what a Code 54 is. It gives you all the low down on what you are asking. Trust me I have only covered a small piece of everthing I got from them.

sup man, how did your fuel pump go out? just out of no where it didnt start? My **** ran out of gas on my uncle when he was trying to adjust my tranny that he had just installed after a rebuild. i bought a new Relay too, that didnt help. Ill check that b2 wire out tomarrow, thanks.
I am just here enjoying my "new" Iroc....haha
I never had a problem starting the car. I just dont like my "check engine" light to stay on bugging me. Either way the car seems to run great. If your uncle ran the car without gas it will burn up that fuel pump. I had that happen to me in my Firebird and I tried everything else besides changing the pump, cuz like you said it is not any fun... But after changing the pump the car is running smooth again. Luckily I didnt short anything out on the fuel pump wires. Try the easy stuff first, then as you "research" your car you might find it to be a simple wire change...
I wish you the best of luck man. Let me know how it turns out.

Dave has the the right method here. Unhook the 3-wire fuel pump connector and see if it gets power for 2-3 seconds when you first turn the key on. If not, the problem is in the wiring. If so, drop the tank.

Kuruption562, did you figure it out yet? I love the way people just give an answer but dont really read the question. Let me know, I am freakin curious over here....

Here's what could be bad:
fuse
pump
fuel sending unit
relay
ECM
ignition switch
oil pressure sender
loose/corroded terminal in any one of the 5 harness connections
bad ground to the pump/relay/ECM
wiring
In my experience I've found that it's more efficient to tell someone how to find out what the problem IS than to tell them the dozen or more things that it COULD be. And I love the way people don't appreciate help.

I actually dont know where the ECM is located, there are so many wires under my dash. I did get my tester and test the 5 wires connecting to the Fuel Pump relay and only 1 of them seems to be having power in it. What could solve this? Im gonna go under my car tomarrow and check the 3 wire connection near my rear end. Thanks for the help guys.
Oh and did i mention I sprayed some starting fluid spray into the TB and it started for about 1 second, then turned off.
