Dual Exhaust

Is there any way to fit 2.5" true duals with flowmaster 40 series mufflers on a 3rd gen firebird?

Re: Dual Exhaust

yes i have it done...look at my cardomain site...mine costed 200 plus the mufflers....i would not use flowmaster's tho, thats for sure...the case is way to thick...i have spintech's right now with a 4" case, and i think i'm gonna get some thinner ones next summer...mine is lowered with sportlines springs, and i only scrape the turndowns on the back cuz they hang so low, i'm gonna get them cut off, but once i get my 18's on, i'm hopein its gonna raise my car up just enough to give me substantial clearance..

Yes, it is possible. The method depends on budget, desired ground clearance, and the "cheap looking" factor. Most everyone seems to use full-length headers, no cats, both pipes pointing straight back from the headers and dumping in front of the rear axle. Ground clearance is atrocious on these setups and the pipes are very obviously visible from the sides of the car.

I decided I wanted to take a non-traditional route. I wanted to route my pipes like the stock setup if possible, retaining both cats. It's tight and most muffler shops will refuse to attempt this job. I was lucky. I found one that would. My system incorporates a 3-1/2" collector ("Y" if you will) just behind both cats. From there back, both 2-1/2" pipes are routed over the rear axle, then down to a pair of polished Stainless Works chambered mufflers (custom length of 22"), then out to 4th gen Z28 tips. Ground clearance is the same as the stock or any aftermarket cat-back system.

The rear section is similar to the GMMG system with one difference. Theirs uses one 3" inlet for both mufflers. Mine has a pair of 2-1/2" inlets.

Warning: This was expensive but in my opinion worth it because of the "unique" factor:

Re: Dual Exhaust

thats a beautiful set up willie, i want pretty much the same exact thing
the only thing i would change on my car, is i would take a pair of c5 mufflers (oem or not) and reverse them, i think it looks pretty cool

Re: Dual Exhaust

Thanks. At least you know it IS possible to route a pair of 2-1/2" pipes to the tail section. From there, it's simple to go with virtually any mufflers you want!!

Re: Dual Exhaust

yea willie's setup is great if you can find a shop that does mandrel bending...but if you don't have that, and you get a hole system like that crush bent, its gonna flow like sh*t...
