need help- oil pan/girdle clearance
need help- oil pan/girdle clearance
here is the deal: i have a roller 350 block that i am in the process of building/stroking to replace the tired 406 that's in my s-10 right now. i bought a main girdle for the 2 bolt- and the stock late model oil pan won't fit around the girdle. it's my understanding that girdles always require some "massaging" to get them to fit correctly- is this true? also- will the 400 oil pan i have now fit on the late model roller 350 block i have? if so- is it any wider or have the strengthening ribs that the 350 pan apparently has. i can't see any of this first hand as one of my friends that teaches auto shop at a college 2 states over is doing the machine work for me. he is a mopar guy- so he doesn't know much about the chevy oil pans. he says we either need something a little wider or no strengthening ribs in order to get the pan to clear- or at least clear with a less grinding involved. he also said the oil pan that he has there at the shop for a late model roller slants inward a little- and he thinks the 400 pans don't do that- anyone want to confirm this?
Re: need help- oil pan/girdle clearance
ok- found answers to part of my questions- i know i have to have an oil pan for a late model block (1pc seal). anyone know what oil pan- either stock or aftermarket- has the most clearance at the top?
Re: need help- oil pan/girdle clearance
You would have to look at the oil pan sites to see which ones have been clearanced for strokers and for wide pan rails.
