Dual Exhaust?

Hey everyone, I got an 84 z28 and Im just doing some minor mods here and there. I am interested in putting on headers and real dual exhaust, but I am hearing that dual exhaust cant be put on these cars?????? I dont understand how thats possible if everyone on this site has headers and dual exhaust. Maybe it weas just those 2 shops i went to were stupid or something... I dont know. But anyone that can tell me about the exhaust situation and if it is possible that would be great. Also, what brand headers and exhaust is best for the right price. Thank you all so much for your help.

I've only seen one true dual exhaust that looked like it wasn't cobbled. It's on Willie's Z28, and can be found on a sticky thread at www.thirdgen.org . Be forewarned however, it's loud and expensive, but very, very cool.

Re: Dual Exhaust?

Very few here have true duals. The duals those shops may be referring to are track only type setups or dual outlet systems.

Regardless, like stated above, Willie's is by far the best I've seen. Two pipes routed side by side in the stock location. Loud? With those mufflers yes. Expensive? If you can weld the whole setup will cost about the same as your average cat-back system.

there's a guy on cardomain I used to talk to who dualled his camaro out, it looks good, but there's no ground clearance and I hate to see what those mufflers look like now:

Re: Dual Exhaust?

Most people don't bother with duals simply because unless you have major modifications / big displacement, a single 3" or 3.5" system flows well enough for 90% of the modded 3rd gens out there.

Taking that into consideration, any decent exhaust shop can build you a good true dual system (don't forget the x-pipe).

Re: Dual Exhaust?

Without the X-Pipe, all you are doing is hurting your scavenging which brings more fresh charge into the cylinder. However, you will look cool to the others who have no clue, aka ricers. With the proper X-pipe, you will see maybe a few hp of gain but not enough to justify the costs unless you are a professional racer that will depend of the few hp to win yourself a good purse.

In any case, you are hurting your clearence and you had best be super careful going over any bumps. On the track, it is a non issue because you roll your car down a trailer and it is all flat from there.

You need to ask yourself if the few hp is worth all the trouble. I wouldn't put one on my car for all of it's life since I don't believe I will see gains worth my trouble and I could care less what anyone thinks of my car's exhaust note or sound, etc.
