Driveability problem

(Hey all, this isn't exactly a third-gen issue, but the drivetrain is essentially the same, so I'm hoping that I can get a bit of help with it...)

The vehicle in question is my mom's '92 Chevy 3/4-ton with the TBI 350 & 700R4 (or maybe 4L60E, I don't remember when they made the switch...)

The problem that they're having is that when she tries to accelerate under low load, (like on a gentle up-slope), it has no power, & cuts out (that's their description, I'm 100 miles away & can't easily test it when I'd like.) They tell me that it hesitates when they try to accelerate, & that it is particularly bad when they try to use the cruise control. They also said that it was especially bad when towing a light load (empty horse trailer).

In addition, it has problems shifting - when she tries to drop from 4th to 3rd, it (apparently) shifts all the way down to 2nd! And when it does that, it doesn't want to upshift again until they get out of the throttle.

From the description I've gotten so far, I'm wondering if it's maybe not related to vacuum (broken hose, etc.), but I'm thinking that there may be more than one problem here. I'm just hoping to get some intelligent suggestions on where to start looking once I've eliminated the obvious (tune-up stuff, vac hoses, etc.). Everything is stock so far, but I'm considering some mild bolt-on stuff to give her a bit more torque.

Thanks guys.

Unhappy

OK, if this were a '92 RS with a TBI V8, what would you look at...?

I would look at the TV cable first. Sounds like it is out of adjustment. Thats what my IROC did when I first got it. Just adjust it and it might be the problem.

Lates,
