Difference in Impala/F-body/Vette LT1?

I know the Impala packs 260HP, F-body 275HP (w/o SS), and Vette 300HP, but other than that are they pretty much the same dimensions? I'm still (yes, STILL) in the hunt for a LT1 and cam across a wrecked Caprice Sherrif's Dept car for dirt cheap. It only has 85K on the clock and the motor/driveline is good. Is this gonna be any easier/harder to swap than a F-body or Vette LT1? Any info would be gretaly appreciated! Preesh

F-bodies and Vettes recieved aluminum heads. Impala's and Caprice LT1's had iron heads.

The Vettes got better exhaust manifolds than the F-bodies or Caprice/Impala LT1 cars.

The iron LT1 heads are supposed to flow just as well as the Aluminum versions from what I've read on these boards.

wow I have an f body with an lt1 and it has iron heads not aluminum, it wasnt till 96 or 97 when they made the switch to aluminum. Also watch, the caprice also had a 4.3 v8, that looks just like the lt1, just has smaller cylinder bores.

Thats true, i forgot to mention that stuff. I wasn't aware that LT1's didn't get aluminum heads till 96/97.

I did know about the baby LT1. Fun fun.

your's must not be original

93-95 f-body got aluminum heads first design, poor flow
96-97 f-body got aluminum heads second design better flow

all 94-96 Impala/Roadmaster/Fleetwoods got iron heads (medium flow)
all 94-96 Caprice equipped with LT1 (NOT L99 or baby LT1) Iron heads

LT4 heads have the best flow.

all stock of course.

No Drakar my 93 LT1 engine is all original and it has cast iron heads, its never even had the valve covers off of it. And its in a Formula, you need to check your source, its wrong.

If you bought the car new, then you can say he is wrong, or you can't tell the difference between the 2. I helped tear apart my friends 93 Formula and his (and the 10 other 93's I've seen) all had Aluminum heads.

You can tell for sure by sticking a magnet to the cylinder head. If it sticks, It's Cast iron, if it doesn't, it's aluminum.
