Compressions issues...
Compressions issues...
Im just wondering, what are some signs of lack of compression? My car runs sluggish when i try to full throttle on it, it wont even speed up, it just starts to suck. The car will go fine if i slowly put my foot on the gas pedal, but its annoying as hell doing that. Just wondering if my problem might be compression issues?

Re: Compressions issues...
have you checked your fuel filter? My 305 H.O was doing similar when i first bought it.
If your worried about the compression, just pop a few plugs out and run a compression test on it.

Re: Compressions issues...
Signs of low compression: a dead miss, a very rough idle, burning oil (due to worn rings,) no power, etc.
Check the simple stuff first.....since it does fine if you ease into it a clogged fuel filter seems likely. A weak ignition system will also cause that type of problem, as will a clogged air filter.

Re: Compressions issues...
There's 190,000 km's on the body... the car was kept in great condition, and i was told it still has the original engine, it hasn't been rebuilt or anything...
But this summer I plan on either rebuilding my 305 TBI and adding all the chrome accents while putting it back together... or if I feel like I can afford the gas, I might get a rebuilt carbed 350 with some basic performance upgrades.
I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL SUMMER

Re: Compressions issues...
Your problem sounds like low fuel pressure. I had the same issue a month or so ago. The faster throttle change I gave it, the crappier it ran. If I floored it, the car would get zero power and would usually backfire. If I increased throttle smoothly, it would run almost normal. I changed the fuel filter which helped some, but the problem didn't go away until I got a new fuel pump. If I were you, I'd do a tune up including cap rotor o2 sensor and fuel filter, then if your problem isn't solved I would get a fuel pressure tester before I changed the pump. The pump is a pain in the *** because of everything thats in the way of the tank.
