Changing thremostat- Please help!

I know this may be a stupid question, but oh well.

The problem is I'm changing the thermostat in my car and coolant wants to poor out of the upper hose. How do I remove the thermostat and thermostat housing without coolant going every where!?!? Please help quickly!

You are going to lose some coolant unless you can completely block off the lower hose, and then keep the upper hose up in the air.

Okay well the lower hose is still connected to the engine, and the upper hose I need to take off. How much coolant will I lose if I just let the upper hose dangle? Will it be just what's in the hose or will it be a lot more then that?

I mean you could put some sort of clamp on the lower hose to keep coolant from running through it. Otherwise the pressure will push some coolant out of the thermostat housing when you remove the thermostat.

I dunno...you will lose any coolant in the hose, and the upper part of the radiator.

just tie the hose or have someone hold it straight up... it matters how fast you can move haha

I got a regular 180* thermostat. I got a hi-flow one though from Mr Gasket. The other one actually wasn't stock, it was also an aftermarket, 180* thermostat. However, it was stuck closed so that's why I'm replacing it. Thanks for the help guys.
