Changing Alternator Pulley

I bought a March underdrive pulley kit and i got the crank and waterpump pulleys on. But I can't get the bolt off that holds the alternator pulley on. Is it normal or reverse threads? does it have to be taken off a certain way? what is the allen key for in the middle of the bolt?
thanks

The allen key in the middle is so you can turn the nut and hold the armature from truning. However you might try holding the fan with abreacker bar sideways and use a 15/16" socket, don't stick anything into the altenator just through the fan and across a bolt to hold while you loosen it.

i don't understand the allen key thing because if u put an allen key on it you can't put a socket on it and there is no way to get at it with a wrench. I tried stopping the fan and it seemed like the inside of the alternato was turning, thats why i was wondering if it was reverse threads. thats when i stopped so i didn't break anything. I can't fit my Impact gun in there and i think that would of worked. i will give it another try tommorow.
thank!

The allen is used with a box-end type of wrench that has a deeper throat that fits down inside the pulley. All you have to do is hold the fan from turning until you break the nut loose. And it is just regular fine thread, not lefthand. Try some penitrateing oil on the nut only, that might help. I had to take my altenator off the car the first time I did this also.

The nut is a standard right hand thread nut. You could use an impact gun. That's how I do it. But I removed the March alternator pulley from my system. It kept giving me dead batteries. I didn't have the Power and Amp series pulley set but I am happy with what I have now just using the crank and water pump pulley with a factory alternator pulley.

The impact gun is the BEST way to go, comes off easily. Regular right-hand thread.

i got the bolt off!!
the new alt. pulley looks great. I think mine is the power amp set up because the alternator pulley actually looks very slightly bigger than the stock one. I am going to the track tommorow and i ran 14.4 last time, and now i have the pulleys,24 lb injectors(from 19lb stock 305's) and a new Y-pipe(my old one was stock and crunched.
so i am really hoping to hit the 13's
thanks for the help everyone!!!

The pulley on the Power & Amp system is about 25% smaller than stock.
