Centerbolt Question

Right now I have L98 heads on my IROC, centerbolts. I want to get these BRO-1021001 @ summit. Will I still be able to bolt these non-centerbolts on? Or do I HAVE to get centerbolt heads to replace my stockers?

I've seen centerbolt to perimeter bolt conversion kits, even GM offers one I believe.

Re: Centerbolt Question

So you do need a conversion kit...wouldnt that involve drilling and tapping holes into the block? Anyone have a link to this kit?

Re: Centerbolt Question

the heads should bolt to the block the intake manifold bolts are different on the 2 middle holes on each side. they are drilled and tapped at a different angle you could have the manifold redrilled for the new heads or if they dont fit get one that will. i believe most aftermarket manifolds will fit both styles of heads

Your confusing the Head mounting with the Valve Cover mounting. When you say "centerbolt" that means the Valve Cover mounting, 4 center bolts, as apposed to 4 perimeter bolts. You can get a spacer that converts the perimeter pattern to center pattern.
The Head mounting is the same, only difference was explaned by fbodyguy86.

Re: Centerbolt Question

Alright, I was confused by what 91Z was saying. I plan on getting different valve covers anyhow. I thought that he meant there was a kit with a template and a drill and tap..or whatever, but I got it now. I'll look into it, thanks guys

My mistake, I saw centerbolt and assumed right away you were talking about valve covers. I figured you bought some perimeter bolt heads and currently have centerbolts.

Re: Centerbolt Question

Ok this is confusing on so many levels.

Ok If someone wanted to go from Center bolt Valve covers to Outer bolt Valve covers on the same set of heads (which do not offer both options) then you can pick up a kit from Summit made by trick flow TFS-31500811.

As for Going from heads that are centerbolt to outerbolt it doesnt matter.

With those heads you should be fiine.

Even though I spent a little bit more money on mine.

Dont forget when you get those heads to see if your stock pushrods will work if they do order another set if not still order another set.

I am in a middle of a 355 build myself with AFR heads.

Yeah, I have to get on the phone with Brodix and see what length they recommend...friend of mine snapped a pushrod after his top end rebuild, so I'd be paranoid...even if the length was correct, they are 16 years old and with making 100-150 more hp than stock I'd want something chromoly/heat treated.

Thanks you guys/girls
