Buildin a car...

I am going to do a total "restoration" on my car this summer. I want a low 12 maybe even into the 11 second car. I am going to re-do the whole suspension and such to handle it, but what am i going to need for hp? I'm planning on a hsr 383, hooked up to a t-56, and linked through a posi 3:73 12 bolt rear. Funds are not a problem, more or less time is the problem....

fastburn 385 with a shot of n2o??

there is a pletora of crate motors that would work...alot putting out over 400hp.
saves ALOT of time...and sometimes money.

how bout a h/c ls1?? they are easy to find these days, alot of times with the trans included. throw a few boltons, 23x cam with mild heads and you'll be at 450rwhp easy.

I don't wanna shave any weight and i'm a 290 6'4" guy so that doesn't help either So does anyone know if 450 rwhp is enough to get me into the 11's with a good launch? I don't know if i wanna do an ls1 swap or not, i'll have to read up on it sometime to see how hard the swap will be.

Years ago if LS1's were as easy to find I would have gone that route with my '92 Z....it would have been much easier and it would have been alot cheaper I'm sure.
I'm tempted to throw an LS2 in the car every time I see a low mileage one for sale.

A 383 with Canfield or AFR 195's (old or new style), a 224/230 or so cam with good lobe profile, high lift, and on about a 108 LSA (or 110 for little better idle), RPM airgap, 750dp with some hp mods, decent spark from whatever you should choose, long tube headers, and really good exhaust oughta get'r done (mid 12s on street tires, high 11's on drag radials).

Of course it wouldn't be as friendly as a LSx.

Or keep EFI on it, but get a HSR or FIRST manifold, some 30lb injectors, a walbro 255 pump, and a little more advanced exhaust lobe (reduce overlap a little), with knock sensor friendly ramps (any that say computer control OK with mods, think XFI 280), and burn your own chips. But it's a lot to learn, so begin burning chips for your stock stuff first, then dig in. Can carb it first even, then learn EFI.

I'm shooting for mid 12's with my setup. I'll let you know if my crate motor will achieve it. I'm working out an engine stalling prob. Probably electrical.

My sluggish stock L98 was hitting 14.1 @ 101mph with just a chip, muffler and airfoil. If my additional 180hp wont hit mid 12's I'll cry.
