Post Just bought my dream car...

Well, I have had a 1999 Pewter V6 Camaro for 3 years now and I loved it... I had done a decent amount of work on it, but since this is possibly the last year for Camaros ever, I decided it was time for a new car.

I am now the proud owner of a new 2002 Onyx Black SS with T-tops, black leather, and M6. I am picking it up in about 2 hours and leaving my V6 behind.

This is going to be awsome!

I wanted a black one too, but ended up with Navy Blue Metallic. Take care of that thing, or I'll drive 15 minutes over to Arlington and kick some @$$!

hey kevin, did you make that shift boot yourself? I was thinking about doing that, it looks a whole lot better. Any tips?
Thanks, Joe

Yes,I made it myself. It is really easy to do and I can walk you through it if you want, but I only have pics of the after-install.I just bought a leather replacement shift boot from Pep Boys for $29.It was on the isle with all the stock replacement parts like pedals and window cranks.

Step 1-Remove the shift handle and the shift plate.(E-mail me for how-to)

Step 2-Unscrew the 4 screws holding the shift face (the 2-3-D-OD thing) to the bottom of the shift plate.

Step 3-Remove all of the old little plastic pieces that go by the shifter.Remember to leave the smallest piece that has the hole that goes around the shifter. It has the little orange arrow that tells you what gear you're in.

Step 4-Stick the shift boot up through the opening where the shifter goes.Figure out how much of the shift boot you'll need to cut off.Remember that you need to leave enough slack so that you can shift into every gear.I had to cut like 2 inches off of the bottom of mine. But leave enough to fold around the little lip on the inside of the hole that the shifter goes through.

Step 5-Tape down the folded over portion of the shift boot with some double sided tape.Or you can use glue, just anything to hold the boot in place.

Step 6-Put everything back together and install the shift plate.Make sure you check out the fitment before you bolt everything back in.Once you get it fit right then just re-install the shift handle.

I know these instructions were sort of vague, but if you ever try this then you'll see exactly what I'm trying so ineptly to say.Good luck.
Kevin
