Best bang for the buck intake

I wanna swap to a higher flowing intake, since chevy put the intake made for the 305 onto the 350. Its been ported, but its not cutting it, so whats the best bang for the buck and where can i find it. Ive heard about the holley stealth ram, but i look in year one and its for 2700$...is that for if your switching from a carb?

Re: Best bang for the buck intake

IIRC that's for the StealthRam, injectors, throttlebody, harness, Holley DFI ECM, etc. Basically it's everything you need for a streetrod build except the fuel pump. All you need is the intake and fuel rails, and some fittings to adapt your fuel lines....which should run around $400-500 depending on where you get it. Year One is overpriced anyway....you can get the intake alone for $300 from Summit. IMHO the HSR is the best bang-for-the-buck TPI upgrade available right now.

You might want to wait until BBK releases their new TPI-upgrade intake and see what it looks like though.

Re: Best bang for the buck intake

I paid somewhere around $430 - $450 for mine (from Thunder Racing), that was for the intake & the fuel rails with the AFPR. In addition to the stuff you'll need to adapt the fuel lines, you'll also need a couple of miscellaneous things like a new thermostat housing, a few vacuum lines, & of course all the gaskets you'd normally need when doing an intake swap. And even with all of that added to it, it's still a lot cheaper than the superram or miniram...

You can get all of the details at stealthram.com.

I thought about mentioning that one too, but I've always heard that it had something of a higher powerband, so the HSR is (supposedly) a bit better for a street car.

And IIRC, the HSR comes out to be slightly cheaper in the end as well...

Re: Best bang for the buck intake

I looked at this thread title and was prepared to come in with a response, HSR>all other "cheap" intakes

You guys beat me to it. I did the HSR swap with everything from thunder racing. Quick shipment. It's a fairly straight forward swap. Although this would get rid of the EGR system. You've also got to move around some sensors and plumb some fuel adapters. (I just ran all new SS braided line from the back, it was actually cheaper for me than all those funky adapters plus now I've got a standard 6an line.)

Re: Best bang for the buck intake

As far the BBK intake goes, dont expect anything anytime in the near future. I talked to a sales rep at SEMA and he said they didn't even have a prototype piece done yet. What they do from an advertising stand point is get the word out to the consumer that an intake is in the works and then sales see's what the responce is. Holley SR is they way to go, unless you want make big power, which would require a big head and then the nightmare begins.
