Bad fan switch I assume?

The fan never turns on when the car is running, even as the needle gets towards 260, EXCEPT for when the A/C is turned on, then the fan operates normally. The only time tonight the fan clicked on was when I was in a parking lot, and left the ignition on, THEN the fan ran...otherwise I haven't seen it/heard it running all night except for when I turned the A/C on.

Bad switch I assume? (FWIW, this is a question about my '91 RS...I need an answer ASAP, and the 3rd gen board on here is slow as hell!!! Thanks...)

the switch is in the passenger head i believe between cylinders 6 and 8 dont mistake it for the knck sensor which is closer to the starter at the bottom of the block. this is the switch that controls fan turn on at like 234 degrees i believe. if its disconnected or damaged replace it.

I'm not sure about RS but A/C irocs got dual fans,

first fan comes on at like 230, second fan like 250,
do you have dual fan? does only 1 turn on?

also are you sure your gauge is right, best to get an infared heat gun on it

I've only seen fans not work never come on late

Re: Bad fan switch I assume?

Search around for a way to wire up your fans to a switch that you can access from the driver's seat. Previous owner did that with my car and I love it...I never go above 180*, unless it is 100 degrees out and I am gridlocked, i might see 220 but it just stays pegged there.

I'm dumb when it comes to electronics, so I can't give you a tutorial, but it's just really that much more convenient...look up how to do it, you will be happy.
