i have a punched out 1969 396 with dome pistons and all the race goodies,i am thinking of swapping out the motor in my camaro with this one,does anyone know if it will fit,will i have to cut the inerfenders for the header clearance and will the body and rear end take the tork?
is there anything else i should know.

 

Ooooh sh*t. A 396 in a third-gen would be KILLER man! Chances are the rear and/tranny *will* take the torque as long as you dont put slicks on the car (or wide tires), but they won't last terribly long.

 

ive got a turbo 400 wth a shift kit to go with it as well so i guess the rear end is what i have to worry about and the frame or body whatever

 

Oh hell your tranny will be fine (I would think) but I would with out a doubt put on sub frame connectors or else you WILL twist your quarter panels in half.
But other than that I think you'll be fine, and your rear will suffice until you can afford a newer and better one (assuming you dont romp on it too hard).

Hooker and Hedman both makes headers for a rat motor in a third gen.

You'll definately want to put in that turbo 400 w/ the shift kit..which will require another trans cross member but im pretty sure BMR or somebody makes one.

The stock 10 bolt isnt going to last before the massive torque of a big block for long...even depending on how much you wanna get on it,and when you have that amount of power at your right foot..

Strange and Moser make complete bolt in 12 bolts for 3rd gens for around $3,000-$3500.
