Re: 88 posi?

Its not a Posi but a Limited Slip and it was a option on all 3rd Gen Cars and the RPO is G80.

Re: 88 posi?

posi was aname given to a type of rear like the old saf-t-trac back in the 60s and early 70s for pontiac.
limited slip is exactly what the name implies. it slips when going around turns or when transferring drive to the wheel that has less traction. G80 is the RPO for the GM "posi".

Re: 88 posi?

when i tested it in the dirt i gave it just a little bit of gas ,just enough to lose traction when i got out and looked both tires left the exact same marks from start to fin.

That's great.....but do you have the G80 RPO code in the center console?

You can also jack up the rear of your car and spin one tire. If the other tire spins the same direction, you have a posi. If it spins the opposite direction, then you have an open rear.

The RPO sheet should be on the inside of the "glovebox" in the center console. Some cars still have the codes on the side of the door too.

Re: 88 posi?

Location for the RPO list is on the underside of the center console lid. A 3"x 6" sticker with all the 3-letter codes for the car,if its has not been removed by previous owners.

Re: 88 posi?

well i checked and couldnt find anything on the rear end with the codes i have,im thinking that it might have been swaped out,its definatly a posi rear end, anytime i light them up i can feel it track in the rear end plus it leaves identical marks in the dirt as i stated before.
i guess ill have to jack up the rear end in the next few days and find out.

On thirdgens, this is usually true, but on 4th gens, it isn't.
I've got a posi rear and when the rear is jacked up the wheels spin opposite.
I believe the rear I am running has a Zexel Toresen differential.
