Why do you even ask for help??? Everyone trys explaining stuff to you and it goes right over your head and you ignore them. So just go ahead and stick 3.73's in there so we can laugh at you.

yousee one thing you retards are missing is the fact that i am goung to bring the shift pion't down.
it shifts at 5000 now when it peaks at 4,400 how gum on gm's part there.
i'm going to tune it up and drop the dhift piont's to 4500 and 4,300. now shifting there i don't get howit will run out of power band.
ok here is what i am going to do. i'll tun thr 3.73's race it again and if i hir faster then the currewnt 16.11@88.8mph then i get to laught at you guy's. right sound's good .
a tuneup and gears. you still haven't explained to me why swapping gaers make TBI aand carbed engine's run fast et's but it will slow down the TPI engine's??????? all i wanted to know.
a body of mine a an 89 rs with a 305TBI and 2.73 gears ran a 17's now after swapping in 3.73's only mod done and now it run's 15.70's. i had an 83 t/a with a 350 4bbl it had 3.42's i swapped it 4.11's and lower my et's about 1.5 second's. so what your saying is with my 350tpi it will go from 16.11'swith 3.23's to like 16.70's with 3.73's. is basicly what you have told me. ok si theni asked why is that???why dose lower gears give TBI's and CARB's beeter et's but will suposedly worsen my already bad et's on my TPI car??????????? dose this clarify now what i want to know???????? now.

You do not take advice very well about your sick car. Also stay in school and forget about cars until you learn how to spell. Your grammer is the pits.

well dude nice thought. but i had 3.6 to 3.8 gpa's al throught my school years.anyway that still didn't tell me why TPI will slow down withlower gears while TBI's and carb's end up runnin faster et's????? i know that 3.73's will run past the power band if i leave the stock shift point's but if i lower ,my shift piont's when i swap gears it should run out of the hole a lot quicker. on east wash you rarly run thruogh 2nd gear. on the ave.with 3.73's you will run threw 1st and maybe atmost 500tpm'd of second.
cause with 3.73's and 235/55r16's at 4,500 rpm's in first your just over the speed limit some when it hit second at 4,500 your already speeding.so with3.73's and shifting at 4,500 in stead of the stock 5,000 setting. it should move fine you lose some top end big deal cause you gained a lot of off the line power.

What you fail to realise is that you'll be tached out in 3rd with 3.73 gears and have to go into overdrive. 3rd gear at 4500 with 3.73 gears is only 92 mph.

Do you now see why you won't be any faster?

umm mikey simply put having larger gears makes your top end lower and your car is slow enough that with 3.73's youll be hitting your top speed before you get to the end of the track.

I think the other point is you have a really sick car if its running those times and there are probably a few hundred dollars worth of basic maintinance mods that will bring your times down by a second. Fix your car and then worry about modding it.

k that is under stand able but 92mph in 35mph zone would not be very good.
mnow do you see my piont it only needs to be strong from 0-45mph tops.after 45 i don't care if it fall's flat on it's face.
now could you explain you 3.73's and 4.11's work so good in TBI and CARBED. engine's v.s TPI's. is it that you can get them to rev at high rpm's with out lose breath???????
are TPI's that restrictive??????????.
cause a friend oh mine a han a 305TBI camaro that he put 3.73's in. it shifted at 4,300 and 4,100 and he could walk the 350tpi iroc's and GTA's off the line and up to 75mph.
now with my 91bird TBI i had a 350 in it with 3.73's and would walk them to 90mph then i fell off.
and friend's and family have ran 3504bbl's and 406 4bbl's with 3.73's ,4.11's and 4.56's and ran rather well.
i'm building a 406with DUAL TBI's and a 2,800 rpm stall and 4.11's should run12's hoping for atleast 13's.
my brother ran a 406 dual TBI and he ran 11.02's at 123 mph.
he had a 318*cam with 673lift.
i will only be running 292*cam with 575lift. but any wau thats another for another time.that car has all been planned out with your guy's help so i'm all good with that.

I STILL WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHY TBI AND CARBED ENGINE'S CAN RUN LOW GEARS WITH OUT DOGING OUT. BUT TPI'S CAN'T.?????????

If all you care about is 0-45, get a converter and keep the gears. It'll be a better mod anyway.

As for TBI and Carb cars responding better, they have less torque. Add gears to get torque mulitpication. TPI already has gobs of torque down low. You'll be defeating the purpose with gears and TPI for what you want it to do. 30 mph is tops in 1st gear with 3.73 and 4500 shift point. And with 1st being so short, no traction means slower 0-45mph.

The converter will act like steeper gears until the stall is hit, then the gears take over. You can go faster in every gear then.

Hope that helps.

My car is BONE STOCK. It has a 350, and stock gears in back. I dont know what they are on a 9 bolt, but this allowed me a best of 14.8x @ 90.01. I looked at the tach as I crossed the line, and it was right about 4700 I think. This was on a street tire, stock size (245/50/16). I managed a 1.94 60' on that run. Later, I found out that my MAF was bad, and my cat was clogged. You have many more problems than gearing if you cant break out of the 16's with an L98.

I didnt read ALL the replies, but third gen's also will NOPT shift into OD with the gas pedal more than 3/4 depressed, unless work has been done. It will just keep on redlinin'.

I hope you can figured out your weak spot(s). Try a tune up.

The reason that TPI engines don't like such steep gears is because of the intake runner length. They are a torque engine not horsepower, which equates to low RPMs. Compare the distance the air has to travel from the trottle blade of a carbureted or TBI engine to that of a TPI. They come in right off idle and are out of breath at 5000, your carbureted engine is going to take a bit to make power but wing to 6000, so the carb likes gears the TPI doesn't.

Why don't you discuss this mythical 292 cam you are always talking about, like giving a few relative specs that mean something (.050 duration, LSA, etc)

Also the only name calling was from you: "yousee one thing you retards are missing is the fact that i am goung to bring the shift pion't down" Nice punctuation, spelling, grammar, amd overall use of the English language.
