The night i got the 14.9X was in november, so it was a lil chilly, and there was a really good tail wind that night. That run was the only 14 secong pass I have made, most the time Im around 15.1 and my second best is a 15.0x.

There are a few guys on this board that have broken into the high 14's w/ their 305's w/ the same mods I did. Like you say, it just depends on where you live.

so i think a good tune up and 3.73 gears should give me about what i want for my daily beat around summer racer.

damn bro my LG4 is faster than that

Re: 87 GTA L-98350tpi 1/4 mile times.

FWIW: When my '87 L98 350TPI was stock, it ran the 1/4 mile in 15.0x seconds.

With many mods: heads, cam, gears, headers, intake (SuperRam), MT ET Streets, factory stock 700R4, it ran a best 12.97 sec at Nowwalk, Ohio.

The car with me in it weighs about 3650 lbf.

Re: 87 GTA L-98350tpi 1/4 mile times.

[QUOTE=MY91Y84]3.73 gears are wayyyy to much for a tpi car...no matter who tells you different..
TPI peaks hp at 4,400 and torque at 3,200...so why get gears that will put way over your power band?

thats why
Im really confused at why you did a MAP setup to only gain .1 second.I descreened the MAF and gained that much and i didnt spend a dime on it, it also took me all of about 2 minutes.

Re: 87 GTA L-98350tpi 1/4 mile times.

those are some of the worst times ive ever heard put out by any gta L98, i had a firebird formula before i smashed it w/ a 305 tpi and i was @ 14.93 at 92 mph??? check your fuelfilter, plugs wires coil, cap, rotor, and drink some more beer dude!! Wisconsin Rules!

Re: 87 GTA L-98350tpi 1/4 mile times.

cause they just dont make power that high up in RPM's to use 3.73's.... if you're so intent on getting gears, put 3.42's in. to be honest, i'd love to race you just so i could say my 21 year old car w/ basically no mechanical mods (catback, 3.23's) beat out an L98 car.

my car is an LG4

i ran 16.1@83.6 mph in the 1/4 w/ my old 2.73 open diff. and (being an idiot) and manually shifting the car. not to mention this was 2 years after i took over ownership and the car had no documentation of any tune ups prior. only thing i did was a standard air filter.

Re: 87 GTA L-98350tpi 1/4 mile times.

WOW 16's in a GTA. The factory had them rated at high 15's. I ran 14.4's-14.6's with the only mods being exhaust and 24lb injectors. I had an AFPR but it was set at the stock 44.5lbs. I also had subframe connectors but there only adding weight to the car so there not really makeing it any faster.Internally the 350 was all stock with a stock tune and 327's in the rear. I used Drag Radials which helped with traction but dam 16's that thing is sick or it think's it's a 305 and I bet my GTA weighed in close to 4,000lbs with me in it. I'm pushing 250lbs. so I'm no little guy and the car had 3/4 of a tank of gas at the time. Something's def. not rite with your 16 times.

Re: 87 GTA L-98350tpi 1/4 mile times.

It will work for a modified TPi engine, tho it makes peak torque at a lower rpm favoring a taller gear like a 3.42.
Before you modd any further, make a solid foundation by a "Quality Tune Up". Brass inserts in cap & rotor, good plugs not .99 AC Delco's, set the timing and curb idle(air bleed) and TPS voltage(.54v on MAF set-up @ idle, 4.50v @ WOT)
-change ALL of the filter including the fuel filter..

Then proceed with all of the great free modds suggested above..

(oh..and I saw the date but thought the info might help someone...)

Re: 87 GTA L-98350tpi 1/4 mile times.

3.73 gears make a huge difference. I went from 3.23 to 3.73 with my bone stock 88 Formula 305TPI and it took half a second off my 1/4 mile time and gained 3 mph.
Went from 15.7@86 to 15.2@89.
I just recently went to a T5 and it seems as though the 3.73's are too much gear for the T5 I have. 1st and 2nd gears are really quick, 3rd and 4th feel good but 5th is so close to 4th that I tach at 3K at 80mph on the highway.
