700-R4 Kickdown

Can someone explain to me please how this annoying little valve in the tranny works. I was in o/d " testing" the car's top end ( 350 87' iroc) when it dropped a gear, shifted up, dropped a gear etc. Does it do it when you've got your foot to the boards or 75% down or what?. I know I can get a b&m part to stop it doing that but will that let you go flat out?. Thanks guys.

Thumbs up

The dreaded kickdown valve ..........Every Third gen came stock with it and it basically does what you said. Over 3/4 throttle and it kicks down. Now on my rebuilt tranny, they put another type of valve that shifts to Fourth at WOT..... Gotta love hammering down I10 on the Z-rated GSCs at about 130 and STILL PULLING!!!!

Change it and be happy

Summit sells one realatively cheap, I dont recall the price, but Ill look it up and edit this post later.

Why would you want to go to one of thsoe stores anyway, I hate those places. All they have are idiots behind the desk. Just call Summit, most of the operators KNOW what they are talkin about, then you get it delevered to your door...dont even have to leave the house

Yes & No

Yes it will affect your gas milage,it will give you better high speed milage, and no under normal driving you won't loose or gain anything. I fact you won't even know it's there until your at 3/4 or more throttle in OD.
