Keep in mind that the LT1 first found life in the '92 'Vette.

One would have to guess it was developed in 1989 to 1990 probably.

 

Or the 5th gen features a v6 in any of it's trim packages that makes 300hp or even more, and they can keep v6 weight to around 3500lbs, I think LT1 owners are going to have something to worry about.

 

Acceleration wise, my M6 3.6 CTS feels roughly in the same league as my M5,G92, LB9 IROC.

 

300hp with 3500lbs is gonna make stock LS1 people nervous too.

 

I don't think an LS1 car is going to have any problem at all running down a 300hp 3500lb car. LS1s have no problem dispatching 350Zs and G35s.

 

...and neither should an LT1 in proper running order.

I don't think we'll see a 300hp v6 in the 5th gen. I'd say 250+ but below 300.

 

A 300hp v6 5th gen is going to walk a 275-285hp stock LT1. Maybe not run away from it, but I don't see how it will lose. Its just progress. Sooner or later, there are bound to be NA v6 cars that pull away from a stock LS1.

From the sounds of it on here, there is likely to be at least one v6 engine in the 5th gen making right around 300hp.

 

I was talking about 350Zs and G35s in your reply, both of which an LT1 should beat.

A 300hp v6 5th gen on the other hand, I'm not sure.

EDIT:actually, stock for stock LT1 vs 350z would be a good race coming down to driver I think. I know I've handily beaten both 350z/G35 but I'm not quite stock with a cut out, intake and electric waterpump.

 

To my understanding, a stock LT1 in good running order (some of them are getting old now) would be a driver's race between a 350Z/G35. Both kinds of cars seem to run the same E.Ts, with the same trap speeds, in the hands of capable drivers.

 

What does an LS1 Camaro or Firebird weigh?

 

The lighter low option models come in closer to 3350, while the more option intense models come in closer to 3500.

At what point are the cars going to get too fast? There are alot of cars that are pretty fast out of the box so do you think the they will draw the line somewhere. Theres alot of inexperienced/irresponsible drivers young and old with access to some quick cars.

 

Insurance companies are already doing that with your 3 year insurance record age etc...

 

With just headers and a cold air intake i slap ls2 gto's around. But ok keep talking about run down lt1's that have 140k+ miles on the stock plugs and wires. I've seen ls1 f-bodys that couldnt run any better then a 13.8's @ 101ish. It all depends on the car, and the way it was taken care of. Mines got 162k and had the **** beat out of it the whole way, but i atleast change parts when they go bad.


g35's and 350z's a race? Not even when i was stock but funny non the less magizine racers.
