The "what would you give up to save weight" thread.
I think that like the Z06, the Z28 will need certain things to be priced at that price point. The SRT cars and the GT500 are both tops in thier performance field, as well as the Z06, and they all have the amenities that would come with a 40-70k performance sedan or coupe.
I would like use of aluminum on the roof pannel if possible, maybe the hood and deck lid. That could shave 100 or so lbs off the car.
Id be happy that if the Z28 came in the same weight as a standard LS3 powerd Camaro, despite the added weight of the LSA, brakes, suspension, chassis reinforcements, etc. I also would like to see some weight tricks such as lower and farther back with the engine, and magneisum engine cradle.

Funny, I wouldn't have bought a 4th Gen without that package.
4th Gen were(are) very bland looking oval blobs without the added lower agressiveness of the GFX package.
That said, it doesn't have to be standard. I'm more than willing to pay for a GFX package.

I second that...tho I'm not sure how one would fit the 5th gen, as it looks like a mild one built in already.
Until '98, I wouldn't have bought one anyways, too unremarkable looking, seats were to narrow in the lumbar region and visiblity was poor..even if it could handle like it was on rails.

I liked the 93-97 Camaro's, but thought they looked like they had a smiley face. The 98-02's looked a little more agressive (even without GFX).
Well, if I bought one (and sadly, the jury is still really, really out on this one), I want all the normal power goodies. My cars are not track cars, they are weekend fun cars...and as such, I want a nice stereo, power amenities, etc. Take GTO equipment and add a removable roof, and that's what I want...
With that said, without the removable roof, that's sorta where I draw the line. I know it seems insane to ignore the purchase of the car without a removable targa or t-top, but that's how much enjoyment I get out of t-tops. I won't replace an old one with them to get a new one without them.

Speaking of don't-like, am I the only one who doesn't like the high beltline, tiny greenhouse (slammed) look of many newer cars?
I might even own an LX by now if not for that. From what I can see, the G8 does not suffer from that trend too much, but it looks like the Camaro will.
For one, outward visibility usually suffers, and for two, I like to occoccasionally rest my elbow on the window ledge. On many newer cars (350Z, anyone?), it's not possible.
The reasoning I've heard is that post 9/11, we're all quivering in fear, so we want windows that are more like gunslits, so that we feel safer. Of course, that doesn't explain convertibles or T-tops.

I think the best thing they could do is offer an SS and a Z/28. The SS gets the same power goodies as the zed, but with all the "luxuries", to compete with the likes of the SRT vehicles and the GT500 or whatever else Ford dishes up.
The Zed, in sticking with it's performance heritage, could recieve a different SORT of luxury. Recaros instead of cushy leather. Light magnesium alloy wheels instead of flashy chrome. An aerodynamics package. A more focused suspension tuned specifically for a car that's maybe 150 pounds lighter than the full-load SS. Carbon fiber for some of the body panels instead of fancy automatic climate control and navigation and butt-massage and whatever else comes in cars now.
The two cars would be priced similarly, with the same powertrain, but one, the SS, could be focused on being a grand tourer offering the same power goodies as the Zed, which would be the livable daily driver that you could take to the track.

In the case of the Camaro, I think it gives a more 'fighter jet' look. Similar to the canopy of a jet, it's windows are slim and sleek.
I wish more vehicles would use the chopped look.
I personally LOVE the chopped look. May be why the 300 and Charger are my 2 favorite sedans on the market right now.

The soft-top jag was beautiful though.

It's good to know that someone likes the chopped (not slammed -- I realized I used the wrong word after I sent it
) look.
